Stone Temple Pilots Live

Saw these cats Friday night in Chicago.
While they were entertaining, and I was truly surprised Scott can still sing as well as he can, they were done after a 2 song encore.
Same set just about every night. They switch a few out here and there, but that's it.
Total time from taking the stage until the final curtain came down was around an hour forty.
1:40!!!!
Pearl Jam is so good to us...

To be honest, most bands I've seen don't play for much more than an hour and 40 minutes - obviously there are exceptions, like Pearl Jam, but 1hr 40 mins is not an overly short show. In terms of the setlist, they are slowly starting to change it up. I think part of the problem is that they have a lot of hit singles, and they feel like they would be short-changing people if they didn't play them all - which doesn't leave much time for deeper album cuts.
You could say this about most bands out there. You are right, Pearl Jam is special.
But, I was there as well and it was a great show. And Scott did sound great and it was awesome to hear some songs I hadn't heard in a awhile. I think anytime you try to compare another bands live show with PJ you are just setting yourself up to be disappointed. Pearl Jam is the unique one in this situation, not STP.
By the way, did you catch Cage? They had a short set of course, but it was awesome. What energy. I could have done without his sweaty hair in my face when he crowd surfed though.
Please keep posting your reviews of their current tour, that will help me decide whether or not to go

Last time I saw STP was '92. STP and Blind Melon opened for Neil Young. Wasn't a great show in '92, Weiland spent half the show singing through a megaphone. (although Blind Melon and Neil were great).

He still does that for songs like Dead and Bloated, Crackerman. Not sure what to make about what happened recently in Cinci, but I just saw STP in May and didn't notice a thing errant about his singing/performance then. I'll be seeing them again this weekend at Jones Beach, and will report back if any other stage mishaps occur!

I can sing pitch-perfect Radiohead, Pearl Jam, and Jeff Buckley.... but only if lipsyncing.
...and apparently so can Weiland.

ugh, yet again he does not lip sync. this isn't the dumbest fucking story ever. HE DOESN'T LIP SYNC!- http://grungereport.net/2010/08/29/furt ... incinatti/
"I live in Cincinnati I was in the left front pit not 5 feet away from Scott when he fell. The dude is a straight up professional. He’s on the fucking ground singing like nothing happened and waited for the guitar solo before getting up. All you haters keep hating but the fact of the matter is he is best thing on tour today."
They flat out sucked balls in Toronto on Sunday...zero energy...zero stage presence...short show...boring setlist.
Last time I ever pay to see this band.
Time to hang it up boys.

I was at this show too. Band sounded good, and for them they even mixed it up a bit. Hearing "Still Remains" and "Pretty Penny" were firsts for me, at least, when it comes to seeing STP live. Happy I went.

They ended up announcing a Vancouver show right before or after that festival so we ended up seeing them in a big outdoor festival one day, and a small theatre the next (actually I can't remember what order that went in).
Either way, the shows were pretty good.
Then I saw them in Victoria last November. It was pretty meh. They went through all the hits, but there was no energy, like they were just phoning it in. From the reviews I've read, Scott is touch and go on this tour. I know the other members of STP have had a difficult time having success outside of STP (I saw Talk Show open for the Foo Fighter's in '97.. also meh). You have to wonder with the BS that comes with playing with Weiland, if the rest of the band just does it for the paycheck?
