Massive, full, thick, loud and ROCKING. And the band is in fine, fine form.

p.s. The '08 bootlegs should send all the people who never gave Matt Cameron a chance to their graves. Cameron owns the drums. And he is a rock piranha on the boots.

  • I'm not sure what the complaints have been. I'm listening for the first time right now, and it sounds terrific. People should go back to hearing some of the 2000 shows, which are nowhere near this good. Also, anyone saying there is audience recordings out there that sound better than the official boots is kidding themselves. I have been listening to bootlegs since 95 of this band, and aud stuff can't hold a candle to any of the officially released boots.

Great job. Can't wait for MSG, Hart, and Mans cd's in the mail...

  • can't wait to hear it! is it any different than the other 08 boots? wwas it delayed to spend more time on the mixing?
  • My primary complaint is that it sounds like Ed's vocals are sitting 'on top of' the band. The boot gets better as it goes on, but the first few songs just sound a bit odd to me. I'm by no means a professional, but I sang and played bass in a touring band for YEARS and I did the band's sound so I was all too aware of the way you have to mix the vocals so that it doesn't sound too karaoke-ish. I think the main problem with trying to record a show of this size and in a venue such as this is that there really are no 'acoustics' to speak of. There was nothing for the sound to bounce off of except for the crowd which wasn't directly in line with the sound anyway due to the height of the stage. I'm going to give it a few more listens with my good phones and see if it grows on me. I'm quite sure it will.

For what it's worth to all you naysayers out there ... it sounded better on headphones in my house than it did on my car system.

So if you are using only your car system to judge ... I wouldn't.

  • I will say that the drums sound perfect as far as the mix goes.

Of all the boots so far, the later ones sound best. I haven't heard D.C. but from M.S.G. through to Mansfield night two the mixes are the best. Also the band definitely got better, tighter and more adventureous as the tour went on, there is a lot of longer versions of songs with more solos and improvised endings etc. Ed also was a bit off on the early shows vocal wise, but he got to the best I've heard him live in about 10 years (if not ever) by mansfield.
    JUST PLAY THE F***ING NOTE!!!

He definitely sounds a bit 'restrained' on the 'roo boot, if that's the right word.

THANK YOU. I have been saying this about this boot a million times. His drumming is fucking top notch here. Totally soundgarden worthy.

really? i'll wait to hear it, but he definitely came off as unrestrained at the show, though he was probably a bit too sloppy drunk. :) that would suck if the boot didnt capture that.

The sloppy drunk? Was that the part where he messed up on Who You Are? "(warble warble)-tance, not (warble warble)-hands, (warble warble), circumstance..."

    Hee hee
  • Just listened to this again at the gym at lunch. Turned into a 2 hour gym session cuz I couldn't stop listening to this. The momentum and intensity just keeps picking up. Love Reign O'er Me, DTE, and on is just incredible. Ed is clearly getting more and more wasted, which just makes it better. Having been there makes it even more special, but this is THE BOOT of the tour...

I think that was a matter of not playing that song in 10 years.

    DTE is another story.

Ed: "Na-na-na-na, Na-na-na-na ... na na na na na nanana na"
    Jeff/Stone: "Hal-le-lu-jah ..."
Ed: "Yeah, that's how it goes."

    :)

yeah! how does he forget that part?
even though he mumbled throught the first verse of RVM, that was still one of the best RVMs i've heard.

Am I the only one who thinks Ed's vocals on LROM sound...not so good?

Don't get me wrong, I love the boot. WMA and Who You Are being the highlights for me :) But for some reason Ed just sounds wierd on that song and I don't know what it is, plus he sounds like he's really pushing the vocal chords on the screams especially that last one.

Just curious, does anyone else notice this?

I agree 1000%. He's out of time almost the entire first part of the song.

Phew, I was starting to think all these concerts were wearing on the ol' eardrums!

I couldn't tell if it was timing or if it was something else. I sounds like his mic is cutting in and out or almost like they like cut him off at the end of every verse when they edited it. Wierd.

There's definitely some other 'technical' stuff going on, but he's late with the "only love..." in the beginning, and he doesn't recover for a bit. Simple human error, but it still sounds weird.
