Swell Season Tragedy

My first post...wish it was about something more pleasant. Two nights ago my wife and I went to go see a great band by the name of The Swell Season at the Saratoga Winery. It is a beautiful outdoor venue that ranks as one of the best here in California.
What was a fabulous night of music turned tragic as a fan intentionally jumped to his death during the performance, missing lead singer Glen Hansard by a few feet. It was by far the most shocking, horrific concert experience I have witnessed, a violent act that seems to replay itself over and over for those that were in attandance. My heart goes out to the parents whose children were in the first few rows. It has been two days and we are still pretty stunned by this event.
Anyhow, Glen and Marketa of the Swell Season could use some words of encouragement and support. If you are looking for some new bands, check out some of their music, which resonates in a way not unlike some of Eddie's acoustic solo material. It is also pretty damn fun to learn on the guitar as well.
ok, time to go back to sleep...

Hey, your first post! Welcome to the board! :D

You know, I don't mind if people want to kill themselves - people have all kinds of problems & emotions that most people could never understand - but they should never do it in a way that involves other people like that. Now the band and the audience are victims too. :( I hope they/you are all able to move on with as little trauma as possible. I'm sorry you had to witness that. Most of us have never been direct witnesses to suicide so we can't say we know how you're feeling, but I just hope you are all able to feel better soon.

As for the band The Swell Season, I saw them when they came here a couple of years ago (though probably not at quite as cool a venue). I had never heard them before, but a friend convinced me to go. They were awesome! (So was Iron & Wine, the opening act.) I hope this doesn't give people a bad association with them.

I heard about this the other day!
Its so tragic... and so dangerous and while I hate to take away from the fact that this poor person felt the world was so bad that he had to end his life, I have to agree with those who say it was a selfish move.

He could have seriously hurt someone - evidently he could have seriously hurt Glen... and he's definitely scarred people mentally.. :(

Its tragic all around :( :(
