Drum storage question

Is it safe to stack and entire set of drums (bass drum, snare, and 3 toms) vertically? My concern is not them getting scratched, cause I have some towels between them. My worry is that they would all be all stacked on the bass drum head, so the weight of the snare and toms would all be on one bass drum head.

Stacking them saves a lot of space in my limited storage area, otherwise I wouldn't do it, just to be safe. But if it's safe, it would help.
I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too.

maybe get a thin set of boards? so the snare and toms are resting on the rim of the bass drum?

I agree. 2 pieces of cardboard cut a little oversize and then you're resting hardware-to hardware instead of hardware to head.

...though stacking I've seen used by pros, like behind the drummer of radiohead at 3:03 mark:

But stacking long term is probably better.

I've stacked before, but only when they're already in their soft cases.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)
