is pretty effin atmospheric.
I know its not their "best" album. It's not very optimistic, Ed mumbles and so on.. but when in the mood, it takes you to places no other Pearl Jam album takes you.. I still think, sound-wise it's their best produced album.
Something about Riot Act and '03 tour.. the warm sound to everything.
Does anyone else agree?, wether you like the music or not, something about how everything was recorded and mixed just hooks me.

its a great album
one of the best0 -
For years it was my favorite.. I'm more on page with the optimism of Backspacer these days, but there's something about the sound of the Riot Act era.. that was some great production.jamingjamers wrote:its a great album

Love Riot Act.
I don't mind Eddie's singing at all, and I love Bushleaguer, Thumbing My Way, Ghost, Cropduster...all the songs that seem not to be very popular. I find it warm, too, warm and amber-y, like having brandy in the evening. Love the cover art, too.0 -
by far their best album sound quality wise.........soooo thick.0

this was the first thing i bought with my first wage, i was 19. i got paid the day it was released. i remember listening to it on a sony cd walkman on the way home on the bus, can't keep got me hooked then save you started and that it was it for me, it's still my fave album (well VS is but thats just natural). also lyrically it's ed's best work. only thing i didn't like about the riot act era was the website, there was far too much going on visually,Caleb Benjamin Higgs-16th December 2006

I love it. Its one of my favorite albums. Very much underrated. Save You, Ghost; amazing songs. I was lucky to see 2 shows during the 2003 tour. Fantastic.I wish I was an alien at home behind the sun.....
I wanna race..with the sundown..I want a last breath..I don't let out...0 -
Awesome album, like Binaural it doesn't seem to get the respect it deserves.0

Easily Pearl Jam's best, along with Vitalogy, No Code and Binaural.

Can't Keep- Pearl Jam
I wanna shake
I wanna wind out
I wanna leave
This mind and shout
I've lived
All this life
Like an ocean
In disguise
I don't live for
Ever
You can't keep
Me here
I wanna race
With the sundown
I want a last breath
I don't let out
Forgive
Every being
The bad feelings
It's just me
I won't wait
For answers
You can't keep
Me here
I wanna rise
And say goodnight
Wanna take
A look on the other side
I've lived
All those lives
It's been wonder
Full at night
I will live for
Ever
You can't keep
Me here********************************

Listening to it right now.
(Thanks for the suggestion, OP.)
And I remain baffled by the lack of love this album receives from PJ fans, or at least many people on this site.
Great album artwork, too.0 -
one man's warmth is another man's mud
Binaural had a warm sound to it, Riot Act just sounds muddy0 -
You want to talk about the sound/recording quality of this album, listen to it with some quality headphones. Not earbud, iPod headphones...I'm talking high-quality Bose type headphones. Wow. The album is indeed atmospheric, but also "encompassing" (does that make sense?); you end up adrift in that musical sea. Its fucking awesome.

This album really deserves the full headphone treatment the same way any of the creative albums (Vitalogy, No Code, Binaural) do. I can listen to any of the other albums outside these four making dinner, in the car, normal day to day stuff, etc but these albums, especially Binaural and Riot Act have an array of background noises, instrumentation, percussion and backing vocals I'd bet 50% of fans have never heard before simply because they've not had the time to listen on good headphones. Make a space in your life to properly discover them because they never sound the same again afterwards. Even the songs I once thought were duds on Riot Act are now among my favourites. It took me eight years to fully appreciate Binaural and I still make little discoveries listening to it and only during the last year has Riot Act for me become a truly great album rather than an average one. You need to listen to an album in the correct setting sometimes for it to make perfect sense. I had to take Backspacer into the car for it to come to life and same with Avocado. Everyone should go and listen to Riot Act with headphones and if you don't get it then well fair enough but it is my number four album now. I love the quote about being adrift on a musical sea and yes, it is fucking awesome!!vant0037 wrote:You want to talk about the sound/recording quality of this album, listen to it with some quality headphones.
