But Alive really is the greatest song of all time. I hope in 60 years time, as I drift off to heaven, that this is the song that I'll be listening to.
"I am a doughnut." (live - Berlin, Germany - 11/03/96)

"Behave like rock stars - not like the President." (live - Noblesville, IN - 8/17/98)

"Yeah, I was gonna learn to play it (Breath) but somebody slipped me a bottle of viagra and was busy doing something else six times last night" (live - New York, NY - 9/10/98)

  • nothing cliche about it... awesome song! :D
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

    Correct band, wrong song
IMO Given to Fly gets that accolade.

Each to their own and I certainly won't slate you for choosing that awesome track as your all time fave

I gotta agree. I think it's even underrated in a way as far as fans are concerned cuz it's just so obvious that we dont even consider it anymore. But the truth is that it's not only one of their most famous songs, it's also just a really ,really great song.
Well, do you need a lot of what you've got to survive?

I was just thinking something along those lines myself :) I've been listening to ALOT of bootlegs lately and this song time after time after time just consistently blows me away!! I do beleive it is Pearl Jams greatest live song and probably one of the all time best live songs by any band. From that opening riff you just know your in for an emotional musical ride!

    It IS a special song.

  • It is definitely one of the greatest songs of all time. It's such an emotional song. My goodnes, can you remember the first time you heard that song? WOW! I was 20 maybe 21 and that song came blasting out of the radio! I was totally blown away. That song(the whole album really)was such a life changing thing for me. It spoke to me like no other song has or ever will.
It was like the light at the end of the tunnel for me. It made me feel like i wasn't all alone and no one understood. Who can relate?

Isnt "Alive" being played at your funeral ironic? I think that was a verse in that Alannis Morisette song.

"Its like Alive being played, when your already dead..."
  • i was thinking about this the other day. no matter how many times i listen to it, it still gives me chills!
