Below is a break-down of topics discussed on AMT from August 1st to August 18th. There are a few points I need to make about this list.

• Only threads that have been active in August were collected
• The totals below include all “replies” for a thread, regardless if some “replies” were made prior to August 1st. The key point is that the “topic” had to be active since August 1st.
• “Break” topics like “Song Break” were not included
• I had some free time during lunch today
• I have no idea what to make of this yet
• Enjoy!
• I know each thread will often stray from the original topic, but for this little project I just categorized it by the opening post.

Make of this what you will:

Politics – 464 posts
Religion – 362 (The thread “God…Christ…the Bible” adds 935 posts)
Israel – 342
Misc – 313
Obama – 236
American Rights – 160
US Policy – 155
Climate / Environment – 149
Public Opinion / Media – 137
Economy – 127
US Military – 101
Health Care – 78
Wealth – 60
Immigration – 48
Crime – 47
Abortion / Death Penalty – 43
Corporations / Big Business – 43
Axis of Evil – 43
Canadian Policy – 32
Oil – 32
Food – 28
Tea Party – 18
Taliban / Al Qaeda – 6
Activism – 5

Apparently too much time. Actually, it didn't take that long to assemble as there are only five pages of topics active in August and I'm pretty good with Excel. I'm sure if I went through it again, the numbers would shake out a little differently, but this gives on overall view of what topics have seen the most interest in the last three weeks.

Actually if we want to be historically correct, you can't count... we need a Supreme Court ruling to decide :D

  • i was just thinking yesterday how quiet the immigration threads have been lately. especially since some people have now decided that muslims and mosques are their new fake area of expertise.

first time I read your post I read "imagination" instead of immigration...changed your post completely for me, but yet some how kept it the same... People make up a crazy amount of stuff when it would be simpler just to say "I am angry with or do not understand typical muslims and do not want them near me or what I feel is important.

the mosque must be "this month's outrage"...

It is interesting that we spend a lot of time complaining about how the general public ignores important issues and only focuses what the media shoves at us . . . but it appears we are all guilty of it too.

I'll bet if July was analyzed, the hot topics would have been immigration and big oil. Now, less the one month later, they have some of the lowest totals.

It's really a perfect example how media shapes what the news and frames debate in our nation.
