come to the trees
down here fire breaks out in celebration
ashes smoke
both wood and human
take away spirits

escort all eyes to the flame
supporting this maneuver
berry-bushes and fern-top grandness
to be here only need one another’s reverse cartwheels

we’ll all get up
wander about like smoke rings dangling upwards
we just scatter

with us
musically enchanted flames groove
as underbrush…
the undergrowth inside the evening runs

memory for everyone
the same past exists
but tonight this mansion is spruce and cedar

the well in the center of the fire
holds the sea's red wax candles
as foam-waves boil the moon's
beautiful witch
for poetry through the ceiling. ISBN: 1 4241 8840 7

"Hear me, my chiefs!
I am tired; my heart is
sick and sad. From where
the sun stands I will fight
no more forever."
