Gotta be something from Jim Edmonds mentioned. I've seen at least 5 catches from him that are better than anything in this thread, aside from the Akamatsu one.

    About a minute in....

the best world series catch goes to mr. paul o'neill. 2 outs, bottom of the ninth, 1-0 yankees, runners on 1st and 2nd. world series tied at 2 games a piece.

That's a nice catch at an important time, but I gotta think there have been better catches than that. I wouldn't even classify that as a great catch.

Mays' catch is easily better, and I think it's pretty overrated compared to some others I've seen.

Wasn't a sensational catch or anything, but you gotta love Bo Jackson tracking down that ball and then running up the side of outfield wall. That's always classic.

Jim Edmonds also had a great career of making great catches out in centerfield.

The catch referenced in the original post reminded me of the Japanese player from Major League 2 when he makes a similar catch in the movie.

    Ron Swoboda - 1969 WS

Endy Chavez - 2006 playoffs. If they went on to win the WS it would be remembered as one of the greatest plays ever.

You can find the regular TV feed of the Endy Chavez catch, but I absolutely love this fan video. The reaction from the crowd is just incredible.

I have always thought the Mays "catch" was overrated. Not that it wasn't a great catch-it was. However, I don't consider it to be the best ever like most people rank it. MLB Network frequently shows a list of the greatest catches ever. When you sit there and watch 60 minutes worth of amazing catches, you realize there have been many better catches made than that Mays grab.

He also gets bonus points for throwing the guy out at 2nd...
