Love is very, very hard to define. As I asked, what if I "love" 2 people. Should I have the right to marry both? What if it's 12 people?
I wouldn't really care if someone wanted to marry 12 people. I mean such a small segment of the population would want to do that it would have no effect on me. And as long as all 13 people in that relationship knew about each other and things like property/inheritance rights and power of attorney were settled in advance why should I care?
I wouldn't care either. But it would be a mess if the government tried to oversee it. That's why I am a strong advocate of the government not sanctioning or recognizing marriage whatsoever. Let us all make whatever legal arrangements we want to between whomever we want to make them. The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.

Why would it be hard for the government to oversee it? Just make it a rule that if you are married to one person and you want to marry a second person, everyone has to consent and a number of legal documents have to be set up (to determine who has property rights, inheritance rights, next of kin, that sort of thing) before hand. And it is the responsibility of the person getting married to sort all of those things out with a lawyer and that they have to provide the required documentation before a marriage licence is issued.0 -

I'm sure the government would try, but the main thing is I don't see the POINT of the government being involved in marriage anyway. The only people we should try to get even with...

I definitely see a convenience factor. I mean when I got married my licence cost me $150 and for that my wife and I got all kinds of additional property, inheritance, medical decision and other rights. If we had to go to a lawyer to set up things like property co-ownerships, power of attorney and wills and other inheritance documents it would cost way more than 150 bucks.0 -

I think the gay community has it made with marriage being illegal. The majority of us stay in relationships to avoid legal hardships or get grilled by our grandmothers on why we are still single. Why are you trying to ruin a good thing?Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0 -

Because:catefrances wrote:yes love is very difficult to define and it can not be legislated. EVERYONE should have the right, if they so choose, to marry the person theyve fallen in love with and want to spend the rest of their life with. unfortunately gays have to have that right legislated cause its not a basic right for them. and the fact that it is NOT a basic right for them is not just wrong, its discriminatory."Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."0
