Heart Shaped Box Icons: Carrie AkreSeattle’s music scene has never been short of powerful voices, but few have left a mark quite like Carrie Akre.Rising to prominence in the early '90s as the lead singer of Hammerbox, she brought raw energy and commanding vocals to the grunge movement. Their 1991 self-titled debut was a fierce statement, and by the time Numb dropped in 1993 , Akre had proven to be one of the voices of the seattle music movement.When Hammerbox ended, she didn’t fade into the background , Akre had a re-birth with the band Goodness, blending melodic rock with her captivating signature vocal power. Between 1995 and 1999, they released three albums, solidifying her status in Seattle’s alternative scene.She later joined forces with members of Pearl Jam in The Rockfords before carving out a solo career that revealed a more soulful, ino⁹trospective side.Her albums Home (2000), Invitation (2002), and ...Last the Evening (2007) all offer a more stripped back sound compared to her days with HammerBox and Goodness.And she’s not done. On March 8, 2025, Carrie Akre takes the stage once again at Clock-Out Lounge, Seattle, reminding us all why she remains one of the city's most vital voices.
