Hearing Protection during Rehearsal

What do you guys use for hearing protection during rehearsal? After not worrying about it for a while, I suddenly decided to use earplugs - problem was that it made talking impossible, and I especially couldn't hear myself talk. I also felt awkward because none of my bandmates use earplugs. I was thinking of getting the headphone type which I used to have for practicing drums when I took drum lessons a while back, but I sure would feel goofy with those on my head, but they're more practical because you can take them off and put them back on with ease

    I use these http://www.giggear.co.uk/p/Elacin-ER20-Earplugs/
They came with a cord so yo can take them out after each song if you want and they will hang around your neck.

I just 2 weeks ago invested in a mixing board and a few sound-isolating headphones and a number of microphones. When I have people come over to play, they can plug into the board, and we can adjust the volume to hear everything clearly and mixed, but it will be lower than without headphones. But the cheaper thing would be to get those earplugs or custom molded ones. The custom molded ones may give you more comfort and may be better quality reduction in sound.

Under $1k. But that's shopping carefully, so if you decide to go that direction, let me know as I've done a lot of researching on the most frugal price but quality products.
