After watching a bunch of vids of Soundgarden at the Vic...

I realized why why Matt was originally in that band. He's playing BETTER and HARDER than he did in the 90's! Not just him either, the whole band sounds better than they used to.
Check out JCP and Gun from last night, freakin brutal.

I wouldn't blame him if he never wanted to go back
that lil improv thing he did with ben coming out of the encore break was great

I always liked Matt better with SG. He blends in with PJ, he's a force with SG!!!!
I'm was excited about the reunion before but after reading these threads and watching vids, bring on the tour!!!! Can't fucking wait
He was at home.... His summer beach home that is
I was blown away by his drumming. Even on black hole sun, he was drumming like a madman. The way he just SLAMS those drums and cymbals, I don't think there's a harder hitter out there.

I don't think he'd leave such a lucrative gig as PJ.

There is no reason why he cant do both... obvious he is.
That being said, I would like to see Pearl Jam make an album with an experimental vibe and a little more "grit and grime". A wall of fuzzy guitars and thunderous drums, maybe a 9/8 time signature...
that would make my life complete.

Matt's playing with SG is not "better" than what he does in PJ. The man is an enormously talented drummer who can hold odd-meter rhythms and bang transition beats seamlessly. SG's music is *different* than PJ's.. It calls for a much different style that Matt handles with ease. Now I know every drummer has a different groove or feel (Irons, Krusen, etc.) and that can enter into having a personal taste for drummers buts Matt's talent is shown in both bands.. You just have to know what you're looking at and hearing. Despite what some think if Matt brought his drumming chops from SG songs into PJ's catalog it wouldn't work (and vice versa). No disrespect meant here but PJ doesn't require beats in the vein of Danny Carey. PJ's song structures may seem simple sometimes (and some are) but a large part of their catalog is not as simple from a rhythm standpoint as them may seem. Would some songs benefit from an odd-meter crash, tom, or snare? Sure.. But the feel, story, and emotion that come out of PJ's songs are derived from the whole unit. Personally I wouldn't change a thing. PJ has been fortunate enough to have some great talent behind the kit and it's been a very cool journey to watch the shape of the songs when attached to a particular drummer. Bottom line Matt is not a "personality" or a flash guy.. The dude walks in, gets down to business, and rolls out. Just a very solid, consistent, drummer who can handle many different genres... And remember Matt's meant much more to PJ than just drumming.. And for me the bonus is he just happens to drum for TWO of my THREE favorite bands..
