Dog Days

The grass is brown, the weeds look thirsty,
early trees are changing ready for their rest.
The cicada killer bees, the work being done,
are now free to buzz through the days.

Pool water like a bath, nowhere to get refreshed,
even the water from the tap runs warm.
The dog walks are short, they look like they'll keel over
and their dog water is served on the rocks!

My skin is too brown, my hair is now green
and I have a few new freckles to count.
The air is so heavy making it hard to breath,
what I wouldn't give to inhale a cool breeze.

It is now that I daydream of cooler days to come,
orange twinkle lights, acorn squash and candy corn.
Open windows and blankets, burning leaves in the air
and JB's dark green PJ buttons wool hat.

For the Dog Days of summer have worn me down,
Too bad there are weeks of them left.
But Autumn will come followed by the wonderful holiday season,
and another year will be done.

Birthdays, and springtime, a new summer to welcome,
and hopefully a Pearl Jam tour to enjoy.
The Dogs Days again, will return for sure
but will pass as all seasons do.

Here is my life, and surely yours too,
lived from season to season each year.
It's the changing of seasons that refreshes and renews
bringing joy and appreciation with each turn.

ya know, I've been thinking about this more while sitting here pretending to work at my desk,... :?

and even when it is this hot, or when its freezing out,... ( i hate the freezing cold more than the steaming hot ) either way,... I don't want any season to speed up to get to the next.

I mean, we only have SO many seasons in us, yeah?

you've done it now Pandi, ya' got me thinking,.... and that is never good,... for anyone. :D
    Peace, Love.

Wonderful as always.... I enjoy the dog days of summer. I love everything about the warm air, the long evening walks with the stars shining and the moon out. I took my kids for a late night walk last night with flashlights. So much fun...

Here in Ohio the winters are miserable, cold and dark. I'm fine till about mid or end of January and then - I can pull my hair out !!!! ;) No matter what I do, walks, hike, play in the snow, lots of cross country skiing - still, I hate it. I need the sun and warmth. I need the beach !!!!

I think maybe a visit to GA would be in order - lets say from Feb thur April ... :D

Thanks for the story. Love it.

P.S. You know what else I hate about winter, I think I just got started. It's all the "stuff" that goes with it.

The coats, gloves, hats, boots. I'm exhausted before I even make it out the door !!!!

Wonderful summer, shorts, top, and sandals. I'm gone.... :D

I love a walk in late evening, sounds fun. Every sense seems heightened.
I liken the Dog Days of Summer here in GA to the yankee winters I once knew. Of all the times of the year this few weeks is when its nicer to be inside. Luckily we have a pool to enjoy and that gets us outside more, if it weren't for that it would be just like the dead of winter.
Our most beautiful months are April and May and Oct and Nov, lovely springs and falls. We moved here for the weather and it hasn't disappointed.

I remember with the kids, takes a half hour to bundle them then they run out for 15 minutes and all the stuff is soaked wet, lay it all out to dry and then they want to go back out the next hour. This repeats throughout the day!
