that song had gotten me through the toughest point of my life so far (my father passing away when i was 16) i promised my father i'd visit him at the hospital the next day...i didn't end up seeing him because i was busy painting a room in my house to surprise him with when he was coming home for hospice care. the next morning he died and i never got to apologize.
but i could have spent my time alone re-digesting passed regrets or i could have come to terms and realized i'm the only one who couldn't forgive myself.
makes much more sense to live in the present tense.
and so i did the latter, thanks to this song. and now i stay in the present, not paying attention to mistakes i've made in the past, but building myself for a better future.
What a great album! I can never make up my mind if No Code or Yield is my favorite album.
Favorite song on No Code is Present Tense though, just ahead of In My Tree.
I'd have to say "Smile" is my favorite off the album.
I remember my friend who got me listening to PJ was in the front row with me for a 1998 show in Detroit and any chance he could he yelled for them to play Smile. They played it during the encore and he was ecstatic! Not sure if they heard him, or if they actually planned on playing it, but the joy he had when the first note hit has always made me remember that time everytime I hear Smile.
