This story is tearing my heart out tonight. Poor little fella.

The family dog had also apparently wandered off with Emmett, but returned when called. The mother told police she searched around the home and immediate area without success.

Newnum said the door to the house was unlocked at the time of Emmett's disappearance, and it appears the boy walked as many four miles, crossing hilly, rough terrain, before he was found.

Newnum credited the muddy terrain in the area with helping find Emmett. He said the small footprints around the site indicate the boy "was by himself."

Heartbreaking to think that poor little fellow was all alone and so lost at the end... my God.

  • So sad, he must have been so frightened.

As a father of a two year old, I couldn't even imagine how scared he must have been... I try to avoid reading stories like this because it breaks my heart.

Is that your little one in your avatar? Thats a beautiful cheeky little smile!

I normally avoid these kind of things too, but sort of fell into this thread. I've got a 6 year old girl and a four year old boy, I know they move quick at 2 but it makes you think, what the hell were the parents doing? No more precious a gift than our little ones, it is all just so sad.
  • so heartbreaking. the mother was taking a nap. who's to say the little guy didn't crawl out of his toddler bed and go out the door? no one expects a 2 year old to do that. things happen. yeah, they are mischeivous, but don't blame the mother. at least she wasn't high on meth or drunk. it was an innocent mistake (as far as we know so far) that could happen to ANYONE.

I cannot imagine losing one of my daughters (4 and 1) because of my mistake. Or because of anything. I'd want to jump off a bridge.
