Area 51

Just curious as to what peoples thoughts are on this subject. It's obvious our government has been spending millions if not billions of dollars on this place. Area 51 has grown drastically since the 1980's. Is this where all the money goes that the government seems to always be hiding? It now is home to the largest hanger in the world.

Weapons seperations testing for the F-117 and B-2 were conducted at Tonapah and it is the site for advanced systems tests.
I'm not sure what Groom Lake is doing these days, security is still enforced, but, much less than there used to be. There isn't much activity going on there any more.

I don't know about that cosmo. The government suposedly has their own airline with aproximately 60 plus flights in and out of there a day. This documentary wasn't made all that long ago.

Yeah... during the days of the F-117 Program, workers were flown in and out of the base from McCarron on plain wrapped 727s. There used to be a lot of activity back then, but, it's pretty quiet these days. They have a skeleton crew of mostly maintenance people and security forces to keep the lights running and the UFO seekers out. It is used for storage... for a lot of nasty stuff that was wasted from the manufacturing processes.
The Tonapah Test Range is much tougher for non-clearanced people to get to, being deeper in the Nellis Air Force Range. The mountains to the East of Groom Lake allowed non-clearanced people to peer into the base. That is why they moved it. Too many folks, snooping around. There is no such vantage point into the new location.
And Nellis does have use of deadly force authorization... especially in the secured areas.

here is a detailed report on one relatively recent program that was declassified
to say that the base has been pretty much closed down shows you know nothing about this subject and are straight up repeating something you heard. There is a vast amount of evidence to the contrary. Analysis of aerial and satellite imagery, ground-based observations, documentation, and personal interviews reveal use of and improvements to the base infrastructure in support of ongoing test programs. The whole Utah base is an urban legend, the Army and Air Force have completely separate operations in Utah and Colorado that have nothing to do with Area 51.
Well... maybe I did pull it out of my ass. If only it wasn't for the past 30 years I have spent in the Aerospace Industry in several capacities. The last major program... that I am aware of... to come from the Groom Lake Test Facility was the Have Blue program. Even though the manufacture of the aircraft (known as the F-117) took place at the secured facility in Palmdale, CA., ground and flight tests were performed at the Groom Lake Test Range. The test aircrafts were sent in pieces aboard C-5 and C-141 cargo planes from Palmdale to Groom Lake for re-assembly. Weapons seperation tests were conducted at the Tonapah Test Range.
The first operational home was at Tonapah, NV., but have since been reassigned to Holloman AFB in New Mexico.
The X-45 Program that was referenced in the attached article was manucactured in St. Louis, MO at the Boeing (formerly McDonnell/Douglas) plant that produces the F-15 and F-18 fighters. The flight test for that program were conducted at Edwards AFB in Palmdale, CA. Daylight operations could be performed because the design was not highly classified and a testbed for flight characteristics that would lead to the unmanned version of the aircraft.
If you were to go to Groom Lake... today. You would not see much. Security personel will direct you to leave, if you tresspass on base or base controlled property... but, you won't see the cool lights in the sky of the past. Most flight operations are conducted at the Tonapah Test Range. Any advanced black programs are there... far from the prying eye of the curious.
...
P.S. If you are referring to Hill AFB in Utah... you are correct. Hill AFB is the home of Tactical Air Wings, operating aircraft that have been in the blue all of their lifecycle. As for Peterson AFB is the home of U.S. Air Force Space Command and NORAD (moved from Cheyenne Mountain). And yes... Hill AFB and Peterson AFB have nothing to do with Groom Lake other than they all fall under the command of the U.S. Air Force.
Hail, Hail!!!
I gotta admit...that's an awful lot of information to be pulling out of your ass. It sounds like you know what you are talking about so i'll just leave it at that. Thanks for the info.
"its the most secret military base on the planet".
uhm, so why do we know about it?
cause were all in on the secret. :shh:
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say
I don't think it's the base that's the most secretive. More like the projects that go on there is what's so secretive. Therefore, they call it the most secretive base on the planet.
IIRC, Have Blue happened in the the late 70s, and was merely a prototype testbed for stealth technology. Not the actual 117 itself. Sort of like the A-12 was to the SR-71.
