Ive seen them all since 1982-metal bands, jam bands, jazz bands, grunge bands, rock bands, pop bands, however you want to classify them-500+ plus shows over the years
no one comes close to peart in terms of the sounds that come out of that kit
bonham-best of the rock drummers that played on a simple kit
buddy rich-best of the old school innovators and beat makers
stuart copeland-best of the "modern" drummers as far as creating a very unique sound and adding percussion to their playing
neil peart-incorporates all of the above and can play as fast or as complicated as the rest AND he happens to be the lyricist for rush-say what you want-but we are talking about a type of talent that is multi-dimensional- I still remember seeing him bust out electronic drums on the signals tour in 1983-while the kit was spinning-WOW
and if you never saw YYZ performed live prior to 1989, well then, you might never get it
It's just my opinion, no one elses. I don't think he can play as fast as Bonham did. Bonham was a fucking animal and machine on the drums. I just don't see why a drummer needs so many drums to play. Bonham did so much with just one foot than most drummers can do with two feet and so much stuff with a simple kit.
i agree. Bonham created such an amazing sound from a kit that had 1/3 of what many other drummers use.
Thank you!Shows: 6.27.08 Hartford, CT/5.15.10 Hartford, CT/6.18.2011 Hartford, CT (EV Solo)/10.19.13 Brooklyn/10.25.13 Hartford

HAHAHAHAH what the F is Josh Freese doing on that list?
This poll is a no brainer...... Neil Peart.
Otherwise overall....its Bonzo all the way.

Josh Freese is a great drummer, some of the stuff he's done with NIN and A Perfect Circle is pretty damn impressive.0 -
starmap3333 wrote:Well... I've been playing the drums for 31 years.... so... here are the best drummers in the last 25 years, in no particular order... off the top of my head....
Neil Peart (over 25 years I guess but still playing out and doing a hell of a job to boot)
Dave Lombardo - slayer - yep, that's right.
Lars Ulrich - very original style and still at it.
Tim Alexander - Primus - aka herb. amazing.
Travis Barker - yep, travis barker - the guy is a fucking machine and can hang with the best of them and is solicited by lots of artists to play on their recordings.
Eric Sandin - nofx - again, yep, the king of the punk rock skip beat with one pedal - his motto is "double kick is for pussies"
Nicko Mcbrain - iron maiden - totally kicks ass.... period.
Tommy Lee - sorry, not with anything intricate but in the vein of Bonham he beats the fuck out of his drums and was, pretty much, one of my idols when I was a little punk. Flame away.
Me - Muggsy's Boneyard (http://www.reverbnation.com/muggsysboneyard) is broke up but I did some good studio work with these guys, most notably Bushanomix... BDITP also has some groovy beats. My most recent work is with a band I quit because we just had a baby and they weren;t going anywhere anyway, but the song they have on the main page is me... http://www.underhook.net name of the song is dig down deep. p.s. it's true that's me playing but I'm joking about being one of the best. I don;'t fuck around though.
tre cool is a drummer, but no better than any 13 year old who's on his game.
Travis Barker plays punk... Please point out a piece of work of his that qualifies him for this list. Give me a break. The guy is barley 40 and he's going to make this list? What a joke!, and MFC doesn't even make the list? The list is one big giant fail after another. Travis Barker, puhlease!0 -

You are right. He can play as fast if not faster. Without question.Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
