So is nobody here bothered about Pakistan's flood disaster?

A spokesman for Unicef said 3.2 million people had been affected in the week-long floods. More than a million are homeless and roads, houses and power lines were washed away.

At least 1,400 are known to have died and 100,000 are at risk from disease as food and drinking water run out.

79% of the people who use this forum had never even heard of Pakistan until you posted that link.
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

That's what I thought. Most on here seem to be concerned about tea parties. Pakistan had about 312mm of rain in one day when they normally have about 200mm in a month during monsoon. This is a catastrophe. BP oil spill off the US coast, it doesn't concern me so should I care? Yes I do.

Of course it is a tragic story. Over a thouand people have died and it sounds like disease is quickly spreading and the inefficient and corrupt Pakistani gov't is, once again, slow to react and show compassion for their citizens. It's beyond sad, but unfotunately somewhat expected. This is what we have come to expect from Pakistan. Loss of life is never a topic to glaze over.

However, what would you like us to do on this board to show we care? If I posted about every depressing news story, this board would run out of server space in a matter of days. I'm also saddened/pissed off about the CT office shooting, the Gulf oil spill, the missing children in AZ, our national debt, people's continual obsession with self-destroying celebrities, the end of PJ tour, and the OR wildfires.

I was slightly surprised to find not one post about this. It's a major catastrophe. I sometimes wonder if it's not in our own back yard then we aren't concerned. And yes I'm often guilty of that.

Perhaps I misinterpreted your comments but I'm not sure saying "of course its bad for the people of pakistan but floods occur all over the world" shows much emapathy at all.

I don't remember asking anything from anybody. The only question I asked was "So is nobody here bothered about Pakistan's flood disaster?"

I also said in my last post that I was surprised I didn't find any posts about this. You seem to have turned this into me having a major wobbly against everyone on this board and demanding some action. Which it isn't.

not a major wobbly... but you seemingly have passed judgement on the absence of a dedicated thread as being the result of a lack of compassion/empathy or interest judging by the post below.

My take is the Floods are offering a wonderful opportunity to cast a new light on America for the Pakistani people. The US response in Pakistan has been better then the response to Katrina. Something like 7 US Government owned helicopters have saved some 70K stranded people, in addition to 10 million dollars in aid and multiple other supplies the US Government has done a wonderful job showing the other side of our War for profit coin.

dude... what if i said i couldn't give a fuck? what if it didnt bother me in the slightest?

your thread title leads me to believe that my above apathy would anger you... so it's kinda an accusatory thread title.. it's like you want people to argue about it?

So is nobody here bothered about Pakistan's flood disaster?

I would bet most people are 'bothered' by it but are probably highly thankful it doesnt affect them personally.. hence the apathy... Hurricane Katrina caused much more threads to be started due to its location and the fact that its a US majority board.

    just my 4 billion rupees.

i just have to ask....why are you taking potshots at a man who actually got up off of his ass, used his own money and resources, went to the flooding after Katrina, and actually pulled people out of flooded areas and homes and off of rooftops and saved lives? it is more than you or i would ever do and it offends me that you would trivialize what he has done to help people. i have come to expect nothing less from you. :x

i just wonder unsung, would you have a better respect for sean penn if he was down on the border keeping mexicans from entering our country? what about if he were in the gulf cleaning up the oil spill and cleaning oil soaked animals? the man can only do so much. he was in louisiana before the federal government was, so that is something admirable that he did.

back on topic, i read about this a few days ago and it is certainly a tragedy. unfortunately my tragedy meter is pegged, and if i keep reading about things like this every day it is just not good for me mentally. i like most people can only handle so much. i can do nothing about that situation and i hope the people affected by this flooding will be alright and i pray for the souls of the lost and for those who are suffering right now.

Be careful with contentious, accusatory posts and personal comments. TONE is important when communicating through text. Reposting this here...

    Posting Guidelines
    1. Be nice. We're very big on RESPECT here. Respect for each other, the band and the Ten Club Community forum environment. Please think of it as if you are as a guest in someone else's home. Please do not put your posting privileges at risk.

    2. Discuss, disagree and debate politely. It's possible to disagree with people without being abusive, and it's a requirement here. This includes abusive Private Messages.

It seems people are getting personal and offending each other on purpose. It's not ok. If you can't debate the topic without getting personal, you don't belong here and will be leaving the forums. So just remember, if you're not following these guidelines, you're banning yourselves. Personal grudges will open the exit door for you. Let the bannings begin.

    Your choice.

Why do people ask why there aren't any threads posted...
why dont you just post the thread?
Its not like you've posted 7 threads on the flood in Pakistan and no one is replying...

I'm just curious because this is the second thread in 5 minutes i've read with this sort of tone...
I heard about this on my way to work this morning, and only have had access to a computer now...

similar to when the US bombed Afghanistan...forcing millions out of their homes. Something we were directly responsible for yet no one gave a fuck.

you've missed my point... my point being that most Americans couldn't point to Pakistan on a map which consisted solely of Pakistan.
