    From what I can see the AG said police may inquire about the immigration status of a suspect. I don't think that is quite the same thing as saying "everybody, that means you, citizen, better have their papers on their person at all times or we can haul you in at our discretion" like the AZ law.

  • That last sentence "Marshall's county implemented a law that requires police to check the immigration status of everyone they arrest -- but not everyone they come in legal contact with." is something that should be in place everywhere and that most of us can agree on.

    If you are arrested, then by all means, find out if you are here legally, and take appropriate steps to deport or whatever if it's found that you are not.

    But it's when you can demand proof of citizenship for just being stopped (cops can ALWAYS come up with a reason to "stop" someone), is where the slippery slope really starts gaining speed downhill for me.
