2 moons on Aug. 27th

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles off earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons.

The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

    Sorry- it will not look like two moons. Not possible. It may emit the same intensity of light but I doubt it.

    a few years ago maybe, was it Mars or Venus, I think Mars was just huge for quite a few weeks, and very red in the sky, I believe summertime also. I thought this thread was a blue moon thread which I think the next one will be in November.

    depends on your definition of blue moon, as there is more than one. but if were speaking of the second full moon in a calender month, the next one will be august 2012.

    thank you I was having trouble finding that! my definition would be 2 in a month. I guess we wait a year

    :lol: I probably did too and already forgot about it. lol. However, I may still check out the moon that night just for the hell of it. I don't have a telescope or anything, so "checking it out" means more of a 5 min. glance for me.
