Just a little reminder from one of the hottest poster artists right now that when it comes to posters, some people need to chill out.

Look at the two pictures half way down the page of this thread ...

http://www.expressobeans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13749&start=75

These pictures were taken in the men's room of a place called the Goodfoot in Portland, OR ... where tonight, opened up an exhibition called "The Art of Musical Maintenance IV" ... a rock poster exhibition.

The prints on the wall are from an artist EMEK ... and the 3 prints that are ripped above the urinal are this one he did for Pearl Jam ...

http://www.emek.net/posters/p/pearljam2.html

Click on "Detial" for a larger image and a description from his site which states:

"Officially commisioned Promotional poster by Nederlander for the Santa Barbara Bowl concert for Sonic Youth and Pearl Jam.
Not Available For Sale. but thank you for the over 800 emails for this webpage that is not even officially on our website... "

Indeed, for those of that collect posters, and love pearl jam (which, I am an avid member of both) ... this poster, which was never released, is one I'd love to own ... it's one that, as the artists states, he gets TONS of e-mails about because, when you add poster nerd + Pearl Jam fan, you get a tenacious avid super fan .... like some new breed of killer bee.

I posted this becuase .... it's hilarious! If we can't laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at?

This is not a thread for non-poster collecters to slag on us poster collectors ....

This is not a thread for poster collectors and pearl jam fans to freak out ... and yeah, don't contact EMEK either ... (especially you pjtaper) ...

It's a thread for us to sit back ... relax ... have a beer ... hug your mom ... and laugh.

added 3 more pics ... the third pic listed here ("This artist is overrated"), he makes fun of himself (and the fact people are going apeshit over his art right now) ... too funny.

I have been to over 50 shows since 1992 but am not a poster collector. I had a few from way back in the early days that I had on my dorm room walls but by the time I left college they were trashed and I pulled them down and threw them out. Kind of seems like a crime now, I had some old ass shit.

I am completely afraid to get into collecting because I can see how it can become a complete obsession. I am already a spaz about the band and going on tour, if I worried about posters I'd go out of my head. I keep getting the urge to start though....it's like crack I reackon.

Not even being a collector at this point I can see where these pictures of such cool posters could rip someones heart out. Funny, the ones in that urinal might be worth more than an intact one just because of the circumstance.

I love that print, so much so that I bought it and had it framed by Master Framer. I don't know how many of the PJ ones there are, but I kind of like the art print better. :)

Just picked it up from him on our way home from Thanksgiving. It's awesome in person. :)

I think that is some funny shit....

and it might take him to try to bring us back to reality when it is us who pays his bills and he who set the trends in the trade......

and he obviously reads the forum on Ebeans which makes him one of us :)

but I would have loved to see it as well, it also says something about the community that it was left on the wall really

Well, I emailed him a couple of weeks ago asking for a charlotte 1996, decemberists whale and 10K lakes. He had some in his private collection that he would sell me for 3 grand.

That would sure take care of his bills.

Well, I'm sure the 3k was for the PJ Charlotte ... the 10k lakes and decemebreists he sold at this show for $280 and $380 respecitvely, framed ....

These PJ posters that he tore up could have gone for what, $500 each? more?

If you figure the art print is going for $400+ on ebay, I'd think a PJ fan might pay up to $750 for these band editions he ripped .... I think he's doing just fine.

(I wouldn't mind having one of those either)
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

Yeah I'm surprised no one took them even in that condition. When i first started collecting posters i drymounted them, it's cheap and doesn't look that bad. I still do it once and a while.

The art print was once for sale on rocktheearth.org. Long gone now. Got mine though! :)

You're not allowed to say "fuck" on ebeans, so members started saying "drymount", which to poster geeks is the worst thing you can do to a piece of art.

For those who don't live and breathe posters, I believe Emek did that poster for the PJ show but something happened and it never worked out? I've heard all sorts of rumors about Ames nixing it, but who knows. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable can elaborate?

Personally I think having "Thee Bathroom Suite" and the wave posters all in a public bathroom is pretty freakin' hilarious. He's able to laugh at himself. Good for him!

You are correct. I sent him an email telling him how funny I thought this whole display was, and said I was surprised no one took them down to try to piece together.

He said they actually were taken down by someone, but he made sure that he ripped them in such a way that you wouldn't be able to piece them together.

of course those torn posters will fetch a bunch of money because of their 15 minutes. i think a youtube video of them slowly burning would have been better. like his other PJ poster this one is very very overrated, and i like emek.
  • So does anyone know who got these torn posters?

    I have an offering:)

all hes done is created several one of a kind variations of an already extremely rare and popular print... whoever did get those can piece them together and frame em and sell em for twice what they would originally go for... i appreciate the message for sure but i dont think itll have any effect
