I was just wondering where most people buy their Vinyl if they don't have access to a record store. Are there any good online stores to visit besides ebay. Just curious because I am looking to expand my collection. Thanks

amazon can be good on occasion, i've heard a few people have had their records turn up completely warped though...i will admit a few of mine have but nothing really bad yet (touch wood) being in Western Australia though its hard to find decent priced record stores...I only know of 3 that are easy enough to get to but I'm looking at $30-$45 dollars for a vinyl....and thats not just new ones....so i'll take my chances ;)

I didn't even think of Amazon, found a few good ones on here so far. They actually had some I was looking for like 3 My Morning Jacket albums.

    I've bought vinyl online at:

    www.gemm.com
    www.discogs.com

Searching for something is not as easy as Amazon but there is a lot more selection.

    I can't say I've ever purchased a vinyl online...

I always hit up the local record stores.

If I were to buy one online though, I would strongly recommend (to anyone and myself included) to purchase from one that specializes in records before anything else...that way you can be a little more certain that they will handle it with the special care it deserves.

yeah its hit or miss unfortunately with amazon in some cases...the shipping overseas in my case is what draws me in.....pre-ordered about 4 LP's and it cost me just under $10 USD shipping. You can pick up some cheap LP's though and some are extremely expensive....still waiting for jar of flies/sap to come down before i pounce on that

I've done the same thing. I bought two Gaslight Anthem LP's at their concert, and also picked up three New Pornographers LP's at their concert. Best Buy is starting to have an OK selection - I bought "In Rainbows" and "Big Whiskey and the Gru Grux King" there. They are actually cheaper at Best Buy than they are on amazon.com. I think I paid $11.99 for "In Rainbows"

I have a huge used record store down the street from my house. I've found some older LP's there, but the quality is hit or miss. I found the Bruce Springsteen Live 1975-85 box set on Vinyl and picked it up for $10, but most of the LP's are warped. Sucks because they sound awesome otherwise. I think I'll stick to buying new LP's instead of used ones.

the Hasting's in town has a decent selection of new vinyl, but i always have to go out of town to search for the good stuff. half priced books is a good place to start...you never know what you'll find there!

  • I've got a couple of hundred vinyl albums but that just shows how old I am.
Now I'm livin' out here on the beach,

Just thought I'd ask some of you more experienced vinyl listeners about a turntable, I have old one at home but it has no output for a speaker hook up or headphone, so I was looking for some input on a few around here I have access to. I live in a kind of secluded area and my choices are limited. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need to focus on a receiver for speaker/headphone hook-ups.

Invest in a high quality 2-channel (non-surround sound) receiver with a phono input.
