The Fixer: One Year Later..

I never would have thought The Fixer would still be in heavy radio rotation one year later, but it is. At least on Chicago radio stations it is.. Just Breathe got played to death, and now Amongst the Waves is getting heavy play..

It's nice the band isn't just known as a 90s act to the general public. They never went away and should be recognized as a great band with 20 years under their belt, not just some early 90s stint.

They play Just Breathe on KROQ in LA, but other than that....crickets.

They were playing "The Fixer" around these parts (Philadelphia) quite a bit for a while. I do feel most times when I hear PJ on the radio it is something from Ten. You would think that was their only release (pun intended).
  • i live in niagara falls, canada and work at a computer store. Pearl Jam is played on 97.7 HtzFM all the time.
out of 50 songs PJ probably has 5-10 of those songs. that to me is impressive.

    PEARL JAM KEEP ROCKIN !

thankfully we get that station in toronto, too. 97.7 along with 94.9 are my favorites, and it should come as no surprise that both play a fair share of pearl jam daily.
  • Our radio stations suck. I have to listen to 98.1 out of Memphis, TN. It's the most decent one that I can pick up in the car. I heard PJ on it twice yesterday, Black and Evenflow. Sadly, this is all we get aside from Alive and the occasional Betterman. I've heard The Fixer on it from time to time, but it's few and very far in between. I've never heard Just Breathe on the radio. The funny thing is, I heard two of the most popular DJ's go on several months back about how Pearl Jam was one of the best bands ever and how Eddie was one of the most talented individuals alive. I guess it all comes down to "the man" dictating what they play. You're lucky that you live in a town with diverse stations, I have to stick to my cds and iPod.
    Hearts and thoughts they fade....
    fade away...

I am at peace with my lust.....for Eddie.

I've pretty much given up on modern rock stations.. for every song I like, theres 2 or 3 from modern bands that sounds like corporate wuss rock.

Only radio station I listen to is a local classic rock radio station. The sad thing is, over the past few years that classic era has now extended to the early 90's. So now you often here AIC, PJ, maybe under the bridge by the peppers. Nothing says your aging as your favorite genre of music starting to get play on a classic radio station :)

Radio Triple M here in Australia has played all four singles consistently since backspacers release. I say four singles because Got Some got airplay around Xmas time then they started playing just breathe after that. Amongst the Waves in particular is on high regular rotation and is bring promoted as 'new rock'. The band don't get much if no airplay elsewhere on radio here, Triple J give them nothing anymore.

  • i can honestly say i've never heard pearl jam on the radio in England. Work colleagues keep asking me who are PJ are (my desk is a shrine) and it's hard to explain so i just give them my ipod for an hour.
some of these people were teenagers when Ten came out and don't know it. Proper bands don't get radio play in the UK unless you have digital radio and you can listen to PlanetRock. (never heard them there either)

New York radio is so bad that I havent listened to the radio in about 15 years but to listen to Yankee games. And the Yankee radio announcers are the worst in the business. So I have no idea if the fixer is being played on the radio

I have to agree the iamdirtyfrank, radio in the UK is useless for playing real bands.
I recenty came across KRock (New York) by chance on my computer at work. I have heard the fixer and just breath played several times. soundgarden, the smiths and lots of other great stuff is on the playlist. Check it out if you get chance.

I lived in New York until around 1995 and I always listened to Q104.3. I remember it as a fantastic rock station. It's probably woosed out since then though.

Here in Israel, I might here a song from ten once or twice a month (and that is considered a lot as far as PJ songs go).
Still can't believe I met Mike Mccready at the Guggenheim and got a pic with him!!!!!

not a lot here in MD. We have 98 rock, that pretty much concentrates on 80's hair bands nowadays. DC101 is a way better station. Although I really only ever hear stuff from Ten (or betterman), I have heard them play the Fixer last year as well as Brother.

Was just about to post the same thing, man. 98 Rock is a fuckin joke, has been for years now. I agree DC101 is much better, but they also play a large amount of crap, too. Yeah, whenever I hear PJ come on DC101 it's usually a track from Ten or Vs. Not that there's anything wrong with that...I think I heard them play the Fixer one time and Brother a few times last year. I should note, though, that I don't listen to the radio much anymore...

I've been noticing that too... Nova played them while they sponsored the Tour and then not much after that...

You need to give 101.9 WRXP a shot. They put all of the Pearl Jam singles in heavy rotation and will even play in the neighborhood of 15-20 songs from the back catalog.

Amen...everytime i drive south I'm looking for DC101. I even listen online from time to time.

The local station here in NEPA played Amongst the Waves this morning on my way to work...I was pleased.
