In Australia, you have to keep your business record for 7 years..................

After that, if you haven't been caught out, you get to destroy them......

    Oh happy days. :P

Probably as fast to look it up as it was to type that?

well if the IRS/company you work for erroneously adds an extra zero to your gross income on your W-2 and you now owe $7000 in taxes rather than $700 but have no pay stubs to prove your earnings, you may end up caring.

We don't throw out our tax returns, not personal or business, I keep all those.
We had a big bonfire last night though by the pool and burned bags of old sensitive type records that I didn't want to take all that time shredding. It was fun 8-) roasted corn smelled like the WI State Fair :D

Thanks, but actually I saw that page before I posted. I don't own a small business. It says for businesses.

you don't want to know how long we kept some of our records. our file cabinet was packed! that's why i went looking...i felt irs.gov would be the best source besides some of the yahoo questions and answers i found. so then i thought we had experts like accountants and lawyers here.

Nothingman54 doesn't mean any harm with his old remarks, I'm used to it :)
