I was thinking the other day...........what if all the songs that got rejected from their respective albums had actually made it on to the album.....what tracklisting would be best for each? So, I took most of the b-sides in my iPod and put them with the album whose session it spawned from. What tracklist would you use for these extra tracks? (let me know if I missed any and I'll edit them in)

Ten:
Dirty Frank, Wash, Brother, Alone, Hold On, Yellow Ledbetter, Footsteps, Let Me Sleep, Breath, SOLAT

VS:
Hard To Imagine

Vitalogy:
Out of My Mind (live)

No Code:
All Night, Don't Gimme No Lip, Black, Red Yellow, Dead Man, Sunburn

Yield:
U, Leatherman, Happy When I'm Crying, Whale Song

Binaural:
Sad, In The Moonlight, Education, Fatal, Strangest Tribe, Drifting, Sweet Lew, Hitchhikers, Harmony, Foldback, Thunderclap, Anything In Between, Puzzles & Games (Light Years demo)

Riot Act:
Down, Undone, Other Side, 4/20/02

Pearl Jam:
2x4, Cold Confession, The Forest (instrumental found on Immagine In Cornice, version with vocals found on JA's "Tone"), Of The Earth (is this confirmed that this song is from these sessions?)

Backspacer:
Speed of Sound (Ed solo)
Gimli 1993
Fargo 2003
Winnipeg 2005
Winnipeg 2011
St. Paul 2014

I left Brother off because it was already part of the reissue of Ten (but, you could put the one with vocals in there). Yeah, those two weren't technically PJ alone, but they were cut during those sessions, weren't they? I guess that's why I included them. But you are correct sir.

  • no kidding. when I was going through the list, it seems it could have almost been a double album. And a GOOD double album at that!

  • it's on the European version of Ten, along with Wash. I've owned that version since I shat myself in HMV one day in the 90's after seeing it, so I guess that's why I left those off.

a lot of those songs would never have fit the 'idea' of some of those albums. such as HTI. that song is nothing of what VS. is

Backspacer B-side would be the 12th song that Tom Tommorrow talks about in DEEP6.

While I love "Out of My Mind" (live), should it and 4/20 be included? Not really Bsides.

  • I don't see why not. Ed said that 4/20/02 was recorded for RA, but didn't make it because the band already had too many songs. And Out of My Mind I thought should have, even though it was apparently just a live improv and never recorded in the studio, I thought it still fit as a B side.

Lost Dogs is my favorite release so I guess I'm glad the songs were not split up or included on the other albums. It is very special to me. I like its compilation, a mix of quiet thought and fun and get up and dance, get rowdy. Perfect for anytime listening but mostly late Friday evening on the deck or porch for me. Individually some of the songs are amongst my favorites also, Alone, Undone, Strangest Tribe, Wash. I guess I feel they deserve to be together and can't really picture them anywhere but as they are, Lost Dogs who found a home together.

They always leave off the best songs. Hard To Imagine alone proves my point.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!
