I kinda agree what he said about Bono's lyrics, and I'm not a Bono hater. As far as RITFW is concerned, this is my least favourite version.
  • wolfamongwolveswolfamongwolves Posts: 2,414
I know this sounds like a contradiction but, though I love Neil Young, love RitFW, love PJ's cover of it... I agree with this guy. It's intolerable. I've listened to it once. Never again.

I am a Bono-hater (like most of us who have to share a country with the twat and his repugnant ego), and it's exactly this self-important, bombastic lyrical masturbation that makes that justified.

And why I hate him even more now, is that (just for a moment) he made me hate RitFW, and hate Pearl Jam ...

Note: I didn't say I was a Bono lover either. U2 lost me after Rattle and Hum but I'm sure (well I hope) the public Bono is very different than the private Paul Hewson.

ok im also not bono's biggest fan..

but what i find amazing is that he waits to come out by himself without the rest of u2(already on stage).like hes the main man...

if pearl jam did a song with another artist do you think jeff and co would take the stage and then eddie pop up later ..i cant see it .i wait to be proven wrong..but i just feel pearl jam are a team a group..u2 are bono and the others

now hit me with all the youtube links of eddie walking out after then others :P

Completely agree with wolfamongwolves' post. I thought I am the only one who hated this - I actually managed to forget it.

    ritfw shoulda been #1

bono ruined it with his stupid lyrics

only good thing was mike and the edge trading solos

i disagree with limp bizkit cover of behind blue eyes being on this list. it was done in a cool way and with respect to the original version.

also the song it's my life fits the no doubt sound perfect

I personally hate that version too because Bono is in it.

Opening with Inside Job, Dublin 06 ;) but only because of the super long intro on that song, think we all know that Eddie Vedder is a singer that will not let anyone elevate him above the rest of the band (just another reason why he's so cool, he's humble :) )

"when i wake up in the night, i hold my little girl..i want the same for her as i want for the world" i love that eddie sings that line like that,
see...when ed changes the words, they have meaning
i dont think bono even knew what the words WERE
wtf bono and edge are even doing on the same stage with our boys is what i want to know
bono doesn't have the slightest idea what he's doing, and edge can't in his wildest dreams come anywhere close to mike...why would the edge being doing a solo when mike's right there? jeez, i'm almost embarrassed for him.
that being said, i don't agree with the review that said eddie was off key..i thought he was, well, eddie, and good
i love jeff and stone sharing the microphone. and mike..well...he didn't get to do anything at all...with the edge trying to upstage....the dude looks like he might fall asleep at any given moment..and his talent just isn't up to par..at least not with mike on the same stage...no freakin way.
not the best version in the world...but its still our guys...who are nice enough to share the stage w/bono
i know ed thinks the world of him
but wtf? the talent just isn' t there and bono struts around like a self important rooster..ughhhh
    peace,

I don't like Bono by any means and he ruined this song. U2 is the biggest sellout in history as far as I'm concerned. When I saw him on the Hall of Fame special on HBO he was a complete embarrassment.

Pfff couldn't care less - I can't say I hat Bono or U2, never met them or anything they might be some swell guys and all. Only wonder why Avril Lavigne's cover of Fuel from the Metallica Icon thingy isn't there.

I think we are all missing the point here. Why focus on Bono's ego and crappy lyrics when we can focus on the pure raw talent of #81 on this list?

How come that racist rap group (Fugees?) isn't on here for ruining the Roberta Flack song? Sorry to be somewhat off topic.

don't get me wrong, I have u2(mostly early) all over my iPod.... Seen them once and enjoyed it. Bono is just so in ur face with his nonsense

if he sold a pair or two of his diamond encrusted glasses or toned down a show or two..... I might understand the urgency of feeding African kids. He seems to indulge in the finer things .... More power to him, but it doesn't seem to be the same dude

I know the glasses are for his eyes or one of his eyes because he has an eye problem with lights. I can understand what you're saying how it's not the same dude, say Rattle and Hum or Zoo TV?

Off-point but I'm glad the list includes Tori Amos' version of Smells Like Teen Spirit, and All Saints cover of 'Under the Bridge'. Both of these I found personally offensive, lol.

While Bono was spouting his made-up rap-like lyrics on stage, Ed was probably thinking 'the things I have to do in the name of good causes....'

    Yeah Bono ruined it.

However more on this list, Whitney's I will always love you is brilliant and Puff Daddy SAMPLING the police was also good. Totally agree with number 1, Clapton ruined one of the few good songs he had (yeah you heard me Clapton is overrated)
Mike McCready makes the energizer bunny look tired.

I always liked the unplugged version of Layla. Totally agree on Bono, though.
  • cincybearcatcincybearcat Posts: 16,762
    It's not that bad.

I totally agree with #1...absolutely awful. Shoulda changed the lyrics to "Layla....you're putting me to sleep...layla...I'm begging darlin please speed up this song"

    Crazy.

Cream was incredible, but I think a lot of that was Jack & Ginger.

Derek & the Dominoes was one of the great albums ever made.

Clapton solo stuff is a lot of cheesy music, honestly.
