Favourite non-PJ show

So who else have people seen that kick ass live, and how does the best non-Pearl Jam show you've been to compare with the best Pearl Jam show you've seen.
For me it's a no-brainer - Neil Young, Hyde Park 2009. Simply amazing. Even in his 60s Neil Rocks harder than everybody else. I will actually go all out and say that was the best gig of my life, narrowly beating the best PJ show I've seen, however Neil has well over 20 years more experience than the guys so I bet with a bit more practice the boys will be just as good

Weezer @ vicar street 2005 small venue great sound
The first time I saw Metallica in '91 they were phenomenally good. They played for over two and a half hours with hardly a break or an ounce of onstage egos. How times have changed!
final concert ever at giant stadium. it felt like the night wasn't ever going to end. probably the best concert i've ever been to. so pissed thunder road was on the setlist but wasn't played.
AIC at terminal 5 3/9/2010
first time ever seeing AIC live. being right on the rail was something i'll never forget. it helped i was around cool people. i got a will guitar pick and a jerry guitar pick and got sean to autograph my ticket. woulda gotten jerry to sign my ticket if it wasn't for a idiot saying some rude things to jerry.
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
while a very good show, it doesn't hold a candle to any of the Pearl Jam shows I've attended
setlist: http://blamo.org/sp/tour/1167.html
2 and half years later I saw PJ for the first time, and then it all changed...
Not epic by any means, but Incubus was incredible live. Saw them in Houston in 2004.
And a curve ball - Adam Hood. He's a Texas Country/Southern Rock singer-songwriter. I saw him in Houston a few months ago and he was absolutely incredible. He is an amazing guitar player and he closed his set with a bluesy/slow southern rock version of Purple Rain that blew me away. I was pleasantly surprised with his show, to say the least.
No time to be void, or save up on life, you've got to spend it all
Muse any time.
White Stripes (almost any Jack White)
SCott Weiland solo tour for 12 bar blues (Bogarts in Cincy)
first event in NYC after 9/11. i will never experience the raw emotion that i experienced in that room that night. just 4 days after the WTC came down, people were able to gather and rock the fuck out. the first time people were happy in days, and able to just not think about what was going on outside for a couple hours. the band fed off of it and it was one of the best live performances i have ever seen.
Unreal. Anyone who has ever seen the Crowes knows what I'm talking about. But in this instance, there was something special. Finally they were here in SLC, at one of the most perfect, intimate, and characterized venues - The Depot. They had just released Before The Frost... two months earlier, and so they were definitely on a roll supporting one of their greatest records to date. Chris was high as a kite, you could see it in his eyes as they cool and casually walked out on stage...waving to the crowd, picking up their instruments and going right into "Make Glad". I can still smell the incense from that show...and I have flashbacks to how mesmerized I was watching Luther play his guitar. The Black Crowes are one of the greatest American rock n' roll bands..and seeing them live is an experience you'd be a fool to pass up.
Wolfmother - May (?) 2006:
I don't remember the exact date, but it was about a month before I graduated high school. Friends and I had recently got their debut album which had just been released when we found out they were playing a small, 500 capacity club in SLC. This club usually hosts local metal and punk shows...it's incredibly tight in there, but you're close enough to lick the performers feet if you wanted to. The energy they brought that night was something new for me...Andrew rocked like a caged animal who had jsut broke free. The keyboardist? That guy was jamming on his instrument and rocking back and forth so violently he looked like he was a pirate playing on a ship enduring one of the worst sea storms ever. Incredible set list, played flawlessy, and I think everybody else in that room that night had a hard time picking their jaw off the floor like I did.
Tool - August 2006:
Psychadelics are a wonderful thing for a show of this degree. With lights, videos, and overall stage set-ups like Tool has, you're in for a really extreme ride through the canals of your own brain. Before the show two friends and I ate PB & J sandwiches with some fungus mixed in...it wasn't until Tool came out on stage that I truly knew I was done for. The stage, I remember, was all white...it looked like they were playing on carefully sculputured ice or porcelain. The lights were perfectly timed with every beat, every hit of the drums, and all the waves of sound that seemed to just consume that entire arena. That stage was like that for a reason...the lasers, fog, dim lighting and bright lights were all coloring that stage like a canvas. It wasn't just my inhebriation, but this was first show I shed a tear at.

08/13/88 Aerosmith at Pine Knob Music Theater, Mich.
Not really a big deal until u consider that the opening band for this show was Guns "N Roses! Right at the height of "Appetite.." becoming huge, i still to this day have not seen an opening band receive that kind of response from a crowd....raw, pure energy!
07/02/93 James Brown at Meadowbrook, Mich
Got dragged to this show by a friend and thank God everyday that i did...."The Godfather of Soul" did not disappoint, delivering a non-stop 2 and half hour show
03/19/94 Pearl Jam at the Masonic Temple, Detroit
This is the epic PJ show for me, just experiencing their greatness in front of 3,500 fans...they were so big at this point in time (tour for "Vs."), that u had to enter a lottery just to win the right to buy your tix!
05/18/01 Tool at the State Theater, Detroit
My other fav band, this show was my greatest all-around feel good experience....the show sold out in 5 minutes but i went there with a friend hoping to score tix somehow. We knew it would be tough because cops were riding around on horses looking for scalpers throughout the day...we hung out by the back exit and were fortunate enough to meet the members of Tool as they entered (which for me was good enough). We heard the band perform their final soundcheck and it seemed all hope was lost. The doors opened and the line started to move and just then, their tour manager came out and talked to us....apparently one of the security guards had told them that we had been out there all day and did not have tix....he peeled off 2 general admission tix and said it was great to see such loyal fans and for us to have a good time....needless to say, Tool tore the roof off and we left the theater still in disbelief at our luck.....
So as u can c, sometimes its the overall circumstances of that day that helps contibute to a show ( a little beer and meeting people helps too!)...i've been to many shows where the expectations were great, but the show didn't live up to the billing....i prefer the pleasant surprises. One thing is for certain, watching a musical performance live is an amazing experience

I agree.....great shows...the Fonda Theater show was amazing.
However, nothing will ever beat the 1994 shows.....Trent smashed most of his gear and flung water bottles at the other band members....artsy, graceful anger and fury!
WILCO - An Evening w/ Wilco @ The Bushnell, Hartford, CT April 9, 2010

I was there...my first Tool show....amazing...i would go see them again in a heartbeat.
I took my Dad to see that show and I also took him a couple of months later to see Neil Young. He told me after the Neil Young show that he would have never expected in a 1000 years he would have enjoyed the Jeff Beck show more than Neil Young but it was that good.
