Do you think we'll ever be able to see concerts live in 3D?

it wouldn't work for some shows like PJ, but if you went to a concert where they have the big video screens in the background with visuals (U2, DMB, etc), would it be cool to see the visuals in 3D? Is that where concerts might go? Your thoughts.

I hope the 3D fad has the fate of the beta...I just can't see sitting around the house watching sportscenter with glasses on. An occasional movie....sure...but don't flood everything in 3D to us. As far as concerts go...it's a possibility I'd think, but what would it look like if you were close enough to not have to look at the screens? The band wouldn't look good with them glasses on face to face.
  • I hope the 3-D thing goes away soon too. The last movie we tried to watch in 3-D was Alice in Wonderland. My husband, son, and I all had horrible headaches by the time the movie was over. After paying extra for the tickets, my son wouldn't even leave the glasses on b/c they were hurting his eyes. Since, I've done some "online research" and apparently this is a problem all over. Roger Ebert wrote a two-page article in Newsweek griping about 3-D movies, he basically said it's a scam to charge more for tickets. Anyway, back to the concert thing, I sure hope not, because at least at theaters you have a choice between the movie in 3-d or not, you wouldn't have this at a concert.

3D will only go beyond a novelty when there's no glasses involved

David Yow made every Jesus Lizard show 3D.
    I ain't got no fly'n shoes..

  • Can you imagine thousands of people bouncing around, trying to keep their 3D glasses in place?

I'm not the biggest fan of ultra-razzle-dazzle shows anyway - I always think when a band puts on a vast array of pyrotechnics and visual effects, it detracts from the music.
It's gonna be a glorious day...

Someone has already attempted 3D concerts, about 11 years before Avatar...

It's been done before, Primus San Francisco NYE 2008, totally worked, very cool experience.

In all honesty though, I don't really like 3D...I was 100% satisfied with watching things the way they were before this overkill obsession with 3D...

I really like 3D movies every now and then but I think it should stay at the movies. I think if this became an option for a band you would see more and more artist place more emphasis on the show than on the music. Call me old school but when I go to a concert I like the music to the the center of attention, not the exhibition some artist seem to insist on. I think 3D would make it worse.

Rush did this back in the 80's. 1984's Grace Under Pressure Tour.

The only band I can see doing a 3D concert (and maybe they have) are the Gorillaz.
