My wife, son(9 yr old) and I will be heading to Gulport, MS in March. We will be driving down and have 5 days to kill before the wedding we have to go to. Anybody have any ideas for things to do/see along the way from Milwaukee, WI to the gulf coast?

There's a pretty big oil spill down there? Maybe you can help out some of the animals. :D

And of course the wedding is planned to be on the beach, but not to sure that is going to happen now.

How wide of a swath can you cut and what do you like to do? Stop in at Tupelo, MS and check out Elvis' Birthplace. A heck of a lot less expensive than Graceland (30 bucks/person plus 15 bucks parking). Memphis is a cool city, though I like places that are a bit ragged around the edges. Sun Records, Peabody Hotel ducks, and the vacant Pyramid are interesting attractions. Check out the bandshell where Elvis first performed. The Lorraine Motel (where MLK was shot) is an interesting museum. Drive through the abandoned Mid-State Fairgrounds for a look at Americana gone by. Birmingham AL was pretty cool too (though it might be too far out of range for you?) - Sloss Furnaces is a cool "museum" of industrial architecture; climb the Vulcan Statue; and visit old Rickwood Field for a huge slice of baseball heaven, play catch with your kid on the field and run the bases.

thanks, some of those I think we might have to check out, depending on the route we take. I hate going to those websites with generic attractions listings and they end up to be not much to see. Figured I could count on everyone here to come up with something interesting and worth it. Thanks again.

Check out Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Might be some cool places along the way to eat.

I would love to go on a minor league park tour in the south. I wonder if it would be anything like "Bull Durham." Bet you'd have a blast...
