Just for argument's sake, why is grammar so important? I never understood why the slightest misspelling or use of imperfect grammar sends some into a tailspin. I'm newly left-handed so I bet I have plenty of errors much of the time. I'd hope that it wouldn't be an issue. But I've never had a problem with lack of perfect grammar from anyone, as long as whatever someone writes is basically legible. ;)

Generally speaking, I think grammar (and punctuation and spelling) is important so people can understand what a person is trying to say. There really are posts that I have to read several times just to figure out what is being said. (I'm sure people sometimes feel the same way about my posts too.)

Surely we can set our standards a little higher, I mean, is it so wrong to at least attempt to appear educated?

For the record (while I'm on the topic): The proper usage is "a lot", "alot" is not a word. And Godfather, it's "does" not "dose"; I keep thinking about acid when I read your posts.

hahahhaaaa..acid is all you can think of when you hear the word "dose"? too funny, man, too funny

since the predominate form of communication on the internet is through the written word, it helps to have proper grammar and spelling...honestly, some of the people that post here are either poorly educated or extremely lazy or both...and those posters i generally skip and don't read because i have no idea what they are talking about...in fact, there are people here whose first language isn't english that write better than americans who have lived here their whole lives

now, i know i don't capitalize and overuse ellipses but i try to have every word spelled correctly and have proper punctuation...i still make mistakes and am glad when someone points it out :D

on a side note, when i first joined here, i corrected someone and got my very first pm...from hippiemom who wanted to tell me that in my post correcting someone i had an error   i miss her :(

    Punctuation is my nemesis.
    comma vs semi-colon ?
    hyphen vs colon ?

that vs which always makes me think, too...and I think I often get it wrong.

lol @ Vinny - 'could of' drives me nuts!
I know someone who always says "landed up" instead of "ended up". As in, "I landed up not going" :?

Probably. We're not too bright. I also know someone who adds a 'K' in place of the 'G' in words with the "ing" suffix, and eats colD slaw.
EverythinK is good with colD slaw. :?

    Wait...you mean a Canadian thing?

she was pretty special wasn't she. my first ever pm was from hippiemom too. it was pretty funny and made me smile quite a bit. if i went off the radar for periods of time, which i did back then because i didn't post as often, she would always be looking out for me and sending little messages like ''anybody home'.

such a generous, warm, loving person.

    While we're on it...

    There is no COULD OF!
"could of" is really "could've," a contraction of "could have."

"should of" is really "should've," a contraction of "should have."

    Who wants to explain "there/they're/their?"

There deals with a place: Look at those silly Pearl jam fans over there.

They're is "they are": Look at those silly Pearl Jam fans. I bet they're stuck in the 90s.

their is possessive: Look at those sill Pearl Jam fans. They will never relinquish their No Code Lps
