Who cares. I hate U2 and I have never had the impression that the U2 fans care. And nor should they. Let them hate pearl jam. It's no concern of mine, except I won't have to compete with them for tickets.
I cannot come up with a new sig till I get this egg off my face.
  • I just find it funny that someone would refer to them self as a 'grunge head'.
  • It makes sense that "grunge head" doesn't like Pearl Jam.
because Pearl Jam is not a grunge band..............
    simply put
It's only rock and roll but I like it!!

let me guess "grunge head" wears pants cut off at the knee w/some sort of longjohns, ratty old flannel with some obscure rock shirt underneath, he's full of angst, while allowing his parents to pay for his tuition.

Even though I'm new, I would like to put my name in for this mission. this "grunge head" is a threat to our very existence. If he is allowed to continue his campain of hate, what kind of Pearl Jam will we be leaving for our children?

plus- it just seems like it would be alot of fun to smack him one upside the head.

I forgot about the scuffed up hi-tops. Ahh now the uniform is complete.

I did however describe in full the fashion of a certain band in the early years.

We had a format change on one of my towns radio stations, and they have been playing PJ out the ass (early), need to call/email them to play the whole catalog. before that change not so much

I just find it funny that someone would refer to them self as a 'grunge head'.

Especially considering Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament invented grunge. People think Nirvana are like the inventors of grunge or something, but they are far from it. Soundgarden and Green River were the first two major grunge bands (there were others but those guys are the ones who really invented the sound). Even Jeff's solo album has a slightly old school grunge vibe to it (especially the vocals). It's in his blood.

naw... the main reason i hear for people hating PJ is ed's voice... i guess its an acquired taste... GR has an entirely different vibe alltogether from mark's singing

  • I love these dopes who dress in ragged, thrift shop clothes to give a nod to their ongoing (or newfound) love of "Grunge." These guys dressed in ragged gear because they were BROKE. Hell, look at Nirvana post-Nevermind - nice new jeans or khakis, Kurt in his Mr. Rogers sweater on Unplugged... same with Soundgarden in 1994.

Mark Arm (Green River & Mudhoney, to all you young'uns out there) once remarked in an interview when asked about the "Grunge aesthetic" that "there was no aesthetic." Some people wore "shorts with thermals underneath, but that was just a stupid look" that really came about because some guys would have to pull this off when their 1-2 pairs of pants were unwearable (too long without a wash, beer/vomit/? soaked, etc). So... the guy who supposedly coined the term (he denies it), whose music helped define the genre we think of as classic "grunge" (Mudhoney's "Touch Me I'm Sick," single from 1989, anyone?), says that your new buddy's full of it.

But to the OP - you're in college. I bet that "Mr. Grunge" will have a completely new personality, set of outfits, and collection of bands to love/hate in a semester or two, after he "discovers" some other old trend to exploit.

Exactly, Uncle Leo! I don't care for U2, either. Never got the fascination with them. Despite that, its not my concern who does like them.

Just consider the character as "missing out," go about your day, and know that they're not of good taste!
