Covering The Beatles

I know there has been a wide range of artists who have tried to cover a Beatles tune, but who do you think has done their songs justice? For me its a common one with Joe Cocker's "With A Liitle Help From My Friends", I just recently watched Woodstock again and that performance alone is why I always pick him for best Beatles cover.

This week I had the pleasure of watching Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi play "I've Got A Feeling" and Dana Fuchs play "Don't Let Me Down" as well as "Helter Skelter"... All three were pretty fantastic.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

How about Eddie's version of You've Got To Hide Your Love Away? That was a pretty good one.
  • I thought Rufus Wainwright did a good job with Across the Universe. Wallflowers did a good I'm Looking Through You.
I knew it all along, see?

Another one I heard recently is Elliott Smith doing "Because".

Only ones that come to my mind are Aerosmith doing Helter Skelter and Come Together. Also i like STP's version of Revolution.

Not much better than Joe for any cover, he is the man! Saw him live at Jones Beach summer of 08, still going strong and his Misunderstood is my favorite song ever, my theme song I guess.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nS0NRSGSI0
I do love Eddie's, I've Just Seen A Face and You've Got To Hide Your Love Away covers, very moving , his voice so perfectly perfect, full of emotion, better than the originals for me.

I enjoy a lot of the songs from the movie "Across The Universe", thought they all did a great job with the songs, and the movie was really good as well. Songs like "Girl, Just Seen A Face, Happiness Is A Warm Gun" to name a few.

Even if I wasn't a PJ fan, I'd still put EV's "You've Got to..." cover up as one of, if not the best, covers of all time.

Check out the soundtrack album to the Sean Penn movie 'I Am Sam' - a bunch of Beatles covers bybthe likes of Eddie, Wallflowers, Rufus Wainwright, Grandaddy, Sheryl Crowe, The Vines, Black Crowes, Nick Cave etc etc. Some decent stuff on there.

I've never heard anyone cover The Beatles that were as good as the original. PJ included.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

Not really a cover, but I'm still a big fan of the Grey Album.

Two of Us (Aimee Mann & Michael Penn) is a great cover from the I Am Sam soundtrack.

Jerry Garcia did a phenomenal version of Dear Prudence live too with the Jerry Garcia Band.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Jeff Beck's A Day in the Life is amazing...even w/out the words

Jeff Beck's "A Day in the Life" is fantastic. Eddie's version of "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" is great. Pearl Jam's version of Lennon's "Gimmie Some Truth" is awesome.

Neil Youngs cover of A Day in the Life on his last tour was very good too. Destroyed Old Black when I saw it.
