I love the projection with these responses. I never said MSG 2 as a whole, or Breath at MSG 2, wasn't fun or great. I made the simple statement that, yes, compared to other "performances" of the song... and in agreement with the original poster... this particular one was NOT... IMO... which I'm entitled to ( )... one of the better passes through the song live. Now that I think about it it's not really opinion... they factually butchered the song that night!

but this 2010 version of "Breath" Ed forgot the lyrics (again (hello? use the teleprompter for these oldies buddy OK)

not sure why you're so angry, i love this version... eddie actually sings "yo no se" at one point- and in perfect time. so funny-

with a band that changes the setlist up as much as they do to appease the fans that bitch too much about the same old songs, I think it might be hard to rehearse 150 songs to perfection for each tour. Be happy they play oddities for their so-called fans.

When paying $90 for a ticket....I really don't think it's too much to ask the band to know what they are playing and for Ed to remember the words. If the stones can still play a song from the 60's and U2 a song from the 80's, I don't think it's too much to ask the band to know how to play a 10 year old song from Binaural. But that's just me.

    Wow.

Not sure i have this straight, but i'll check anyway. We have a show (the final one before a european tour, on which the band have to leave their own country and families), where on one song, they screw up. A band that have been consistently giving and giving in terms of the quality of music, the sheer variety of releases, and bonuses for members. A band that have inspired a generation of music lovers, to listen, appreciate and create, not just in terms of music, but in life itself. A band willing to say: "Yes i will work over the 4th July Holiday on another continent", again separated from loved ones. A band who choose to make available for those who want it, recordings of each live show, not afraid to present themselves "warts n' all", to fans and the general public. I have seen Pearl Jam eight times in Europe now, and was extremely fortunate to meet Mike, Ed, and Matt in Belfast, Ireland a month ago. That was my chance, not to get photos or tell them i loved them but, Ed shook my hand, and I simply thanked him for everything over the last 20 years.

But even if i had not that opportunity, I would not be griping about how one song sounded shit. Back in 2000 in Dublin, half the band played 3 bars of the first chorus of Alive and the others played 4. Total mess, and you know what? It was funny. They just cracked a smile and kept going. Mistakes happen. I think its why Chuck Berry was a pioneer of guitar distortion!!!

At the end of the day, those of you lucky enough to be at MSG 2, were treated to 34 tracks of the band, way more than most shows. To judge, listening to a CD playback of a show afterwards, is like making love to a woman, and later going over anything that wasn't 100% and criticising. Am i objective when it comes to Pearl Jam? You know what, probably not. But remember, this all aint gonna last forever.

    Peace

Is it not a song from Ten outtakes? It was on the Singles Soundtrack. Everyone to their opinions guys and gals. We're all valid.

When paying $90 for a ticket....I really don't think it's too much to ask the band to know what they are playing and for Ed to remember the words. Those paying $90/ticket got to see the band as they are... imperfections and all...

so you are saying the Stones or U2 never flub a lyric or play an incorrect chord? come on man....

I don't know about anyone else but for me, it took my breath away! Loved everything about MSG II 2010. To each their own.

I'm sure they do. But what I'm saying it, just because they switch up their setlist it's not an excuse. I couldn't believe how badly they flubbed Come Back in Philly. That said, I loved when they flubbed Satan's Bed in State College in 2003. I know it's par for the course and it doesn't bother me THAT much but I have been to many many concerts over the past 16 years and no one flubs as much as Ed. Must be the wine.

On U2's last tour they played over 50 shows and only did 33 originals.
Pearl Jam played about 25 shows and did over 100 originals.

I would rather be surprised and hear a song that might not sound perfect, than hear pretty much the same
    setlist every night.

  • Nobody is saying that the shows need to be perfect. We're saying that the band needs to be better prepared when they pull out rare songs. The Philly run was one disaster after another. The band sounded completely unprepared to play those shows. Regardless of how much fun it was at the actual shows, the $70 bootleg box set is hardly worth listening to if you weren't there. Maybe some people enjoy hearing them mess up song after song, and feel like they're getting a "human" experience. I think it's a waste of money.

Do those bands change up the songs at every show?? I have the answer..
    NO
It's easy to rehearse and sing the same songs every night. Would you prefer that?
