Am I being ripped off (KOL related)

So, awhile back I purchase 4 tix to the KOL show in Hartford in August. They are 100PV, row V and are pretty close to the stage. However, they are partial view, and when I called the box office regarding my seat numbers, I was told that I would be pretty close to the side wall. Looking through the virtual view from the seats, the right side of the stage will be pretty much blocked.

So, I put an ad on craigslist offering to swap with somebody for 4 other seats in the pavilion. I’d be willing to sit farther back as long as we had a good view of the stage. We’re taking 2 friends who are huge fans, and I just want them to have a good experience. So, about two weeks ago, I get an email from a guy saying he’d trade me his section 500 tix for mine. Although a bit farther back, the view is great. I feel pretty good about it. I write him back and tell him I’m interested. I didn’t hear from him again for about 5-6 days, so I write him again and ask if he’s still up for a swap. He says that he is.

I ask him what he knows about the section 100 view. He tells me that it will definitely be obstructed. I then ask him why, if he knows that, he would want the tix? He tells me that he’d just be looking to flip them to make a profit.

We go back and forth about how to do this. He starts to question why I have hard tix in hand (he thought it was all paperless). I take pics of my tickets and send them to him. He says it’s all good, and I ask him to do the same. He tells me that he can’t find his camera, but he’s willing to send me the tickets and when I receive them, I can then send mine.

Am I being ripped off? With all the technology out there, how hard is it to make a fake, hard ticket? Should I wait to see what his tickets look like, then go with it. Or should I just try to see these myself and get other seats.

Thanks, and sorry this was so long winded.

    Well, the sure thing is to just keep your O/V tixx. There are plenty of fakes out there, and you'd have no guarantee on this one. You can probably deal with O/V at a concert; the main thing is hearing it in the building.

    Maybe I am missing something here, but the fact he thought it was all paperless while claiming to have tickets and then saying he couldn't send you a picture because he couldn't find his camera seems all a bit suspect to me....sounds shady.
    Why would he think it was all paperless if he had hard tickets?
    All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

    They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all

    He thought sections 100, 200, and 300 were paperless (and at some venues, it was).

    I think what I'm going to do is have him send me the tickets. Then, I'm going to take them to the local TM outlet and have them scan them to see if they're legit.
  • I have actually sat right next to the wall in the venue and the view is fine.

    sleep = sleep - work * 10;}
    else if (work >= 0) {

    work = work +1;
    }system("pause");
    return 0;}
  • Also, anyone on Craigslist who tells you their camera is broken is ripping you off. I know because I was dumb enough to fall for it once.

    that "can't find my camera" bit sounds really shady. I would go ahead and just keep the ones you have to be on the safe side. You're in the building, and you don't want to end up having this guy rip you off. Best of luck man.

    You could do it. Once you receive the tickets, take them to the box office or whatnot and have them verified.

    Sounds very shady to me - I'd just keep the tickets

  • I'd be careful sending pictures of your tickets. I don't know all the details on how it works but I believe you can sell certain types of tickets on stubhub by using the serial numbers on the tickets. I sold some tickets to a baseball game a while back on ebay and the guy that bought them said he only needed me to email the serial numbers on the tickets. He said he was just going to put them up on stubhub.
