a lost piece here
a stolen piece there
pieces of me are floating everywhere

opened hearts are easier to crush

a songbird flew into the window
neck broken, a tangled mess
the songs died with him
I’ll never get them back,
I gave them to you,…
that was my mistake
I played,
you smiled,..
I stayed,
you fled

I want that time back
I gave what I had
it was never enough
there was no way what I had to give
could ever be enough,….

I can only move so many rocks
from one place to the other
I can only break them into so many tiny pieces
before I am overcome by pebbles
I can only beat a dead horse for so long
I can only bang my head against that same brick wall
was there anything I could do
anything at all?

    What a lovely poem... so much truth in those words.

    I suppose it is always best to keep an open heart, even at the risk of being crushed. Love has so many possiblities. Sometimes fear keeps the heart closed and opportunities get missed along the way.

    A lesson to be learned... Thank you for sharing.
