Meeting of the Minds

My mother in law is fondly referred to as Mama Lu.
She is a force to be reckoned with.
Strong, independent, bright, opinionated
generous, thoughtful.
She is also fragile, at 85, very fragile.
JB is on his way to her now, as we pray.
In a moments notice, life has changed for her, for us.
This relationship is complex,
mother in law, daughter in law.
We have spent a chunk of our lives together, thirty-two years and counting.
Not much more to count now.
Two women very much alike, though not wanting to be so.
Perhaps seeing the worse but still knowing the better.
Odd, most relationships are based on seeing the better
still knowing the worse.
Here lies the complexity. Here lies the love / hate union.
A boy's heart seeks the familiar, his girls heart there to replace,
Mama Lu stands, not so quietly on the sidelines,
with her heart in one hand and a yard stick in the other
I met Mama Lu at a family picnic in 1979.
This makes her about my age back then as I write this today.
This is bringing an understanding to me that I lacked at that meeting.
It occurs to me the greatest understanding comes from standing in anothers shoes
and we can't do that until we walk the path.
Walk it side by side or in anothers footprints.
With this, it also occurs to me
Mama Lu must have understood much more than I ever knew all these years.
We can listen to the words of the wise
and even enjoy the message
but it’s through our own personal experience
that we find true understanding.
We find a meeting of the minds.

makes me think:
"if i had known then, what i know now"
and thanks everyone for listening and understanding
its a small world when it comes to clouds
It can be clear and blue skies in the morning and then by mid-afternoon the little puffs appear. And as time progresses through-out the day, they get denser and denser and the ceiling outside gets DARK. Then we get a lotta noise and water!!
and thank you, pandora.

the sun stands I will fight

you are always very welcome Chadwick
i have had stones & fish thrown at me though.

I think I would rather the yard stick than stones and/or fish.
I am, though, so fortunate to love and be loved by my in-laws.
Thanks for sharing, pandora
"what a long, strange trip it's been"
I too have been lucky to love mine and be loved. I miss Cap, my father in law so much. He was very special. Just loved everybody, never judging, everyones buddy with that sweet smile and ways, I can still hear his laugh. I will miss my Mama Lu too, it has been a long road but these final years together, there has been a true connection. Enjoy yours while you have them time just slips away.
Wish you were here...
