To ad to BL's comments, Wilco was at the Durham Performing Arts Center, and the sound was amazing. It's definitely worth checking out if any of the future acts interest you.
Koka Booth is just a cool place to hang out - probably better to go there for the BBQ, Bourbon, and Beer festival coming up in a few weeks. Maybe a band like Counting Crows, who play there tomorrow, doesn't *need* to be as loud, and will sound OK.
The best part about NC is that its not hard to get tickets for most events. I saw Silversun Pickups at Disco Rodeo, and it as maybe 2/3rds full.
I agree that PJ could sell out Walnut Creek. Fingers crossed.
I could not agree more with you concerning the DPAC. That place is awesome. Sound quality was as good or better than any venue I've ever been in. I also give props to the people who work there. They are insanely friendly and helpful...In most cases and places the people working there are great but these folks really were trying to make it a special place. If you ever get the chance GO!
Agreed, Disco Rodeo is nothing special. Its a big, square room, and it sounds like one. I got to the SSPU show pretty late, but still managed to wiggle my way up front, but maybe I got lucky because it wasn't overly crowded.
Blue Suede, I just saw an MGMT show was just announced for Progress Energy Performing Arts Center in Raleigh. I haven't been there yet, and I'm thinking about checking it out based on your recommendation.

The Performing Arts Center is nice. Very good sound (At least in Memorial Auditorium). Just be careful though. I saw Alice In Chains there and they weren't prepared for a rock crowd. They temporarily ran out beer by the end of the opening band. I thought there was going to be a riot.
I read somewhere that Disco Rodeo has a raised floor so that if you aren't in the first couple rows you can't see the band. Any truth to this?
It does have a raise floor. It's not called Disco RODEO for nothing.
In the center of the standing area on the first floor, there is a raised floor used for line dancing by our Hispanic community. I am glad that the venue is finally getting more use, but it is slowly loosing its functionality as a music venue.
Are there any Ten clubbers in this state? I realize they haven't played here in forever and I haven't been here long, but if I don't meet some people with decent musical taste around here soon, I'm afraid I might start listening to Travis Tritt and Rascal Flatts. Help!
I grew up in NC and moved away in 2003. But I used to wonder the exact same thing.
