    I'm guessing you're male. ;)
Ohio is made up of a great majority of factory workers who work 40 hrs a week for slave labor--some of them anyway. Although my husband falls into this category, I don't count him as a part of the ones who are satisfied working 30 or more yrs at a mind-numbing factory. He originally went to school for psychology and started out as an intellectual. Now we're both stuck at mind-numbing jobs because of bad financial moves. ho hum. but such is life, right?
The big things to cavemen correlation? They would rather do their mind-numbing jobs most of their lives then spend time looking for a better way to improve on life. Just go with the flow and don't ask questions--ooh! That would be another good Ohio slogan. I'm sure I could think of a slew of more in the next week or so.

that might be the most pretentious thing I have read on here, and that says a lot. Who are you to say it isn't okay to be content working in a factory and living a humble, normal life? People don't have to strive to improve their situation unless they are unhappy with it...if they are happy and content who are you to call that living like a caveman?
It would be like me asking why someone would want to go through life hating their place in it? I would then ask that person why they feel it necessary to put the people they work with at their "mind-numbing" job down just to simply make sure they feel superior even though they are working at the exact same place? I would also ask why they are jealous of their co-workers who are happy doing what they are doing?

I don't know you from adam, and I hope I am wrong in my assumptions

Yeah, I read her post in response to me a few times, and I didn't really know how to take it... besides that she thought she was better than people who were content in working in factories.

What is wrong with factory workers (or office workers who sit in a cubicle in front of a computer screen)? They put in an 8 hour day and go home and get to forget about it til the next day. I think it is your fault you choose to remain at a 'mind-numbing' job... and it is your responsibility to remain intellectually sharp. What about the time you spend out of the office? There are plenty of thing you could do.. reading is one example.

Maybe it's time you moved out of Ohio.

Just got to respect each other. A person working at whatever satisfies them is all that matters. I get this a little from some relatives because my son didn't go on to college and has a blue collar job running our printing press when he has a pretty high IQ, did well in school and could have been something as they put it. My daughter's boyfriend is a barber, to them that's not good enough. That's so wrong. Live and let live and be proud of each other. It's what each of us want.

Amen to that pandora, nothing wrong with running a printing press or being a barber, many of my friends are printers and they are a fine bunch although a little crazy (might be from all that ink they smell). Being in engineering I have visited hundreds of factories worldwide and I can understand how people can view this kind of employment in a negative way. I personally feel that more needs to be done by governments and owners in regards to making the working day more interesting and enjoyable. When I say this to directors they always laugh and use the line, work is not supposed to be fun, but after small changes are implemented they see that production goes up and efficiency becomes the norm.
Funny how people are still looked down on for doing certain types of jobs whereas the masters of the universe are often self important pretentious assholes ruining other peoples lives, enron, bp, etc.
This world has got to get a grip on reality!

Amen back at ya! So true the corruption of power and as you say, it takes a certain kind of person to play their life that way. Cheers to you for making life more pleasant for others. That is great and must feel very rewarding.
Yes printers are a little crazy but I think even before they get into the fumes! It's a prerequisite to success :D
