My baby was born to The Who!

So, my wife gave birth to a beautiful girl July 3rd. Long story short, the doctor in the operating room asked me if I minded if he played some music during the sc-section. I expected some classical or jazz. I noticed he had an ipod dock and the first band on his playlist was AC/DC so I requested some Who. The soundtrack to her birth consisted of, in no order, Substitute, Happy Jack, I Can't Explain, I'm a Boy and Boris the Spider. Probably others I can't recall. She was born to My Generation! Second song she heard was Magic Bus before we were taken to the recovery room while they finished taking care of my wife. Mama and baby are doing great and I had to make her some Who gear while we wait for her My Generation onesie to get here. She has the PJ onesies but they are too big for her.

My 8 year-old son adores The Who...he sleeps with their poster at the head of his bed. His favorite song is Boris The Spider (with Pinball Wizard a close second), and he asked recently, "Dad, what kind of spoon was I born with in my mouth?" Had I no knowledge of his Who repertoire, that quote would have been lost on me.

At age 5 he requested Squeezebox at a wedding reception, to which the DJ announced, "I've never had this request before, so I'm obliged to play a song from the youngest Who fan that I just met."

He was also excited of our haul recently at the local used book store. They sell used vinyl, and he found Tommy, Quadrophenia and a The Who Sings My Generation double album.

This summer he and I (and his 10 year-old brother) took in their first Pearl Jam concert. During the first encore break, he said, "I really hope they play Baba O'Riley, but I'll be mad if people say the song is called Teenage Wasteland...that's NOT the name of the song."

Congrats on Queen Bianca...our daughters hold a special place in Dad's heart, which is in its own way cool and different than the place their older brothers hold. I might suggest turning her on to Quadropenia...lots of nice soothing music by which she can drift off for naps and nighttime rest. What a cool way to make her grand entrance!

Holy shit, that's awesome! Your kid rocks! Her room does have 5 PJ posters hanging in it so we're starting her out right.

Your daughter was born to "I'm a Boy" by The Who? Hmm, I expect some serious confusion in the future.

    ;)

    Kidding of course, congrats.

Ha! Thanks. She was born to My Generation. I'm a Boy was played during the pre-op stuff. If she'd been born 20 seconds earlier it would've been to Boris.

    Congrats!!

Keep on playing and raising your kid on good music. My dad did that for me and look- I'm now obsessed with PJ :D

When I was 2, my dad handed me my first piece of music- The Who's Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy on cassette tape, and we'd listen to The Who and other classic rock bands together. Couldn't thank him enough- he taught me all about good music and how much music can help you throughout life.

The Princess congratulates you and says welcome to little Bianca! Excellent choice on the musical selection!

I know you'll be dressing her in PJ onesies but shouldn't you consider one of these: ;)

I understand your relief on the song selection but Mary Anne is one of my favorite singalong songs.
