Looking for the best CROWDS to attend a gig with...
Well, well;
I've just returned home from an Eurotrip to see the London and Berlin performances. With these, I've been blessed to see a PJ show in 3 different continents (5 countries) and got my conclusions about which atmospheres were better, which crowds were happier and more emotional.
I've also been in other continents for other great gigs (not PJ, but same-level or bigger concerts) and after this past week I have no more doubt that YES, the place makes a huge difference in my whole experience.
Sorry to say, lads from the Queen's land, but after two festivals in London I've felt it is hard for me to ever want to come back (for a gig, that is)... I mean, I love the city and the british people, but in a rock concert it looked like you were all thinking of other things. Completely dead and almost not willing to move your hips even he slightest.
Loved Berlin completely, on the other hand... Crazy crowd, every single voice in unisson, nice atmosphere... you did look like you were enjoying it!
I've had mixed feelings about crowds in Europe, in general... some are alive, some are just too over it, in my humble opinion. U.S crowds seem far better to be around (specially L.A. in my limited - 8 different concerts in different states - experience) than Europeans. And Europeans beat asians, of course...
Living in South America I'll just refrain to comment on it, I guess no one has any doutb about how passionate fans are all around here...
So, all in all, what I want with this topic is to hear from your vast experience... What your opinions are on the subject?
I definetly want to give it a chance to the BEST CROWDS in this planet some time, so it would be great to know which ones YOU GUYS think are really worth it the investment.
What are the BEST, most emotional, passionate and whole heartedly people or places you shared a concert experience with? And how do you compare them?

It's a 4 way tie. If you live or go to shows between Philly and Boston you are in Pearl Jam heaven
boston and philly come next
i was in berlin and loved it, but the big 3 east coast cities trump all other crowds.

Large festival crowds will always be patchy for atmosphere in comparison to PJ only gigs, Hyde Park wasn't helped by the wind taking the sound periodically.

I've spot your greek flag in Berlin, I guess... Too far for me to go say hi, but... Kudos to all of us there!
Good question...
The "of course" was unintended, now that I think about it, for this is not taken for granted. It is common for me to think of asian people to be more quiet and reserved, but I should've known this is not a certain thing and it could be just an impression I have.
But all concerts I've seen in Asia (Macau, Hong Kong and Tokyo) have been more of a theatrical thing rather than a concert... everything sooo ordered and calm... everything so "in it's right place with no variables whatsoever"... lol!
It is nice, mind you... really nice!! But I definetly missed the action even more than I missed action from the european crowd.
The sound was the worst indeed... It almost ruined great part of the whole thing, sadly. But my worst impression is that's been my second time at the HRC, two days in 2008 and two days now... and I am yet to feel like it is a party, sorry to say that... it feels more like a plain "normal" gathering only, lke there was people from several parts just there... but not for an event!
I had the 10C tix but the flight got canceled from Brasil, when they put me in the next one (on the next day) I was only able to arrive in London just in time to leave the bags at the hotel and arrive at the Park when Ben Harper was already calling Eddie to sing Under Pressure. =(
Here's hope for a better experience for me next time, then!
Thanks so much for letting me know that, if I could get there earlier and hang out with the 10C lads , it could be a better show... I am all up for another try, then!
I thought the same about NYC after seeing the responses here... the whole "capital of the world" thing about the Big Apple must be an important ingredient in it. It's probably true that, the more diverse is the group, the merrier and more full of different approaches is the party.
The gigs I've seen in NYC really got me doubtfull, though... Never seen PJ there, but I've seen lots of punkrock gigs in the old days and U2 last year... My opinion is that NYC brings excitement, yes, but in the States I'd definetly rather go someplace like Texas or California for these things...
Now, what I realy take from all the replies, I guess, and thanks a lot for sharing, is that Boston an Philadelphia should be on the "to do" list!!!
Good to know!
yeah i agree!! (but i've only seen PJ in germany, the uk, ireland and the netherlands)
(btw, i think i met you in berlin this year, whats your name?)
(honestly though, i think atmosphere and the people around you in general are really important for how you are feeling during a concert!! when i was with people i liked, it felt very different from the times i've been at a show on my own!!)
