Rare Hendrix Bootlegs and Demos Go Digital
Seven concerts and four albums of studio recordings available now as high-quality MP3s

The past year has seen the release of Jimi Hendrix's rarity collection Valleys of Neptune and the guitar god's long-awaited arrival on Rock Band. Now Experience Hendrix has announced 11 bootleg concert recordings and studio instrumental compilations previously issued on Dagger Records are available as digital downloads for the first time. The releases include seven concerts — including Live at the Oakland Coliseum and Live at the Isle of Fehmarn — plus four albums worth of studio recordings that find Hendrix demoing the songs that would later appear on posthumous albums First Rays of the New Rising Sun and Valleys of Neptune. Every song on every bootleg is offered up in high resolution 320kbps MP3 format.

"With my late father's blessing, Dagger Records was devised as an avenue to fulfill the requests of the 'deep' Jimi collectors and worshipers for recordings beyond the 'core releases'," Janie Hendrix said in a statement. "Dagger material is certainly of great historical significance but might not have been recorded most optimally, a situation that mandated the establishment of a specialty imprint to ensure that consumers are treated as fairly and as honestly as possible."

Dagger Records was also established by Experience Hendrix to combat unofficial recordings that flooded the bootleg market and overcharged fans of Hendrix's music. "I used to see a lot of bootleg albums and I, too, was one of the victims of high prices and shabby product," Janie Hendrix said. "It really made no sense [considering] that we have a whole vault full of Jimi Hendrix material to not make much of it available to enthusiasts on our own terms in a transparent way. Obviously, not all of the material is of the commercial and sonic quality of the core titles so Dagger was devised as a means to market these recordings honestly to offer new insights into Jimi's creative process for those who are most interested."

As Rolling Stone previously reported, newly remastered versions of Hendrix's "core" releases — Are You Experienced?, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland — were also made available as digital downloads earlier this year.

Don't know, but I have "Live at Clark University" on vinyl. It's great. I'm a huge Hendrix fan and with this news, I hate being broke and not having a job right now.

was wondering the same thing. I'd think a large percentage of Hendrix's fans are the ones still buying CDs
