Moose Prints

* I always wanted to do a spin-off of the famous Christian poem - Footprints in the Sand :D

Moose Prints

From ice covered talus slopes
Somewhere above
Ledges of shaggy goat
And the rifle report
Of crashing big horns
We lose our trail
Beneath slick white sheets

Two unnoticed ants
Scurrying across the
Indifferent and impossibly
Enormous granite teeth
Of some monster
Now forgotten in time

This is everything
This breath
This thin air
The next forced step
Through burning lung
The bite of ice axe
Holding our elevation

Like life intended
When sabre-tooth still prowled
There are no second chances
No accepted apologies
We must find a way
Over the divide

Knowing miracles
Are where you look
We find the tracks
Of another prehistoric beast
The namesake
Of this climb
And basin beyond

Follow me
They whisper
I know of no trail
But I always make it
To the other side
And it does
And we do too
Carried by faith
In our invisible guide

They are so ugly they are beautiful. After following the moose tracks over the divide, we found one waiting for us on the other side in a thick of trees. Not sure if it was the same one, but it didn't mind having us stand there like a couple of idiots gawking.

Beautiful, I feel like I was there and it is pretty overwhelming.
We had a run in with a mama moose in Yellowstone. Quite a memory for the kids, a bit scary.
Another topic, have you seen John Belushi's movie Continental Divide? I think it was his last. Its a favorite of mine, the scenery breathtaking, the plot heartwarming, the acting surprisingly very good. It is a romantic comedy if you don't mind those. Check it out if you are inclined. I think John is awesome but in this he is just very real.
Again great poem, thanks for posting of your adventures

I've never met a moose face-to-face. At least, not a live one. When I was six, my Dad took us to the Natural History Museum. I must've been walking backward or something because I remember turning 'round and finding myself face-to-knees with a preserved Moose. I screamed, lol...

It was amazingly huge and Jesus-ish.

    Well done :)
