From the Examiner:
On Wednesday evening [TONIGHT], July 7th at 6:30PM, Equality Long Island will be holding a legislative update forum with US Congressman Tim Bishop and New York State Senator Brian Foley. The meeting is being held at the Long Island GLBT Community Center in Bay Shore (Long Island, NY) and is an opportunity for Long Island’s GLBT community to hear directly from representatives about issues that matter specifically to them, including marriage and family recognition, safe schools initiatives, HIV/AIDS funding and more.
Equality Long Island has learned that a local chapter of the Tea Party Movement, “The Conservative Society of America”, is planning to stage a protest at the event. Though the central goal of the Tea Party Movement is a stated desire to curb what the party sees as wasteful government spending, a recent University of Washington Poll uncovers another underlying point of view which may explain the reason for the planned protest.
The poll was aimed at attitudes on race and politics and was taken in seven states: six battleground states from the 2008 Presidential election (Georgia, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, and Ohio) and one uncontested state (California, for comparative purposes). The questions were aimed at uncovering attitudes towards race and politics among people from across the political spectrum, and those identifying with the Tea Party Movement were viewed in their own categorical group.
Many of the results to the questions in the poll reveal attitudes among believers of the Tea Party Movement that were overwhelmingly unfavorable towards issues of race and sexuality in politics. Here are some of the findings:
On Immigration:
- 88% of Tea Party believers agreed with the new Immigration Law in Arizona whereby police are required to question people they suspect of being illegal.
- Only 23% agreed that welcoming immigrants (even legal ones) makes America a better place in the long run.
On Race:
- 72% disagree that generations of slavery and discrimination have created conditions that make it difficult for blacks to work their way out of the middle class.
- 73% believe that if blacks would only try harder, they’d be as well off as whites.
On GLBT Issues:
- Only 18% believe that gays and lesbians should have the same legal right to marry as straight couples.
- 52% believe that gays and lesbians have too much power.
On a somewhat positive note, a majority of Tea Party believers favor laws to protect against discrimination against gays in the workplace (62%) and believe that gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve in the military (69%). On a more general topic, 60% of Tea Party Believers say that we have gone too far in pushing equal rights in this country.
In planning a protest for the Legislative Update at the Long Island GLBT Community Center, members of The Conservative Society of America are surely not interested in protesting one of their stated central ideals, but instead are pushing for an agenda of discrimination and maintenance of the status quo.
Equality Long Island is asking for a show of solidarity against this group that would like to grab attention away from those who seek to have an open and candid discussion of these vital issues. The Long Island GLBT Community Center is located at 34 Park Avenue in Bay Shore. For more information, please visit http://www.liglbtcenter.org/content.php?pgID=639.

what are some of the white supremist organizations?
i rarely agree with unsung but i doubt he is a racist
And those organizations are nothing in terms of membership from what they once were. See most whites have moved on and don't believe in discriminating on the basis of color or whatever else someone might be.
Does the KKK still exist? I'm sure it does. However they are nothing anymore. I'm guessing a single percentage of what they used to be.
did you just tell me that black people hate white people
and white people do not hate black people anymore?

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis
that isn't all you said, you also said the KKK changed their name to the tea party.
quit trying to provoke people. I know you probably just sit back and laugh, and I am sure you are going to come back and call me some sort of name as is your MO, but why don't you just tell people what you believe and leave the insulting stuff out of it.
It is terrifying when you are too stupid to know who is dumb

we were talking about racists' hatred
it sounded to me like someone said that white people do not hate anymore
and i asked a question

Is it the same for black people? Do they, or do they not vote based on color?
Alan Keyes is super pissed to hear about this notion....so is Rev. Al and Jesse...
uhhh ... most blacks vote democrat traditionally ... if let's say a black republican candidate came up ... who knows ... only then would we know for sure ...
I heard 95% of blacks are going to vote republican this year because Michael Steele is black...
I could be wrong, though...
and what color do you, heidi and unsung, vote for when your color has been available?

Fucking Republicans and their racism!
Republicans were the ones who dealt the race cards in the first place!
I vote using other criteria. Age, race, color, or whatever other label one could apply does not sway me. I vote for the person who will uphold the Constitution, who won't tax me out of my home, and who believes that citizens come first.
