All That's Sacred: Podcast #59 now up!
http://allthatssacred.blogspot.com/

The first episode on the new biweekly schedule and it's a special one. Original Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen was gracious enough to spend some time with me recently recalling his influences, the early days of the band, and his premature departure. Dave was very thoughtful and candid and a great interview. As a longtime fan, it was enlightening to hear from this little-known band member who was there at the very beginning.
Enjoy #59.
Cheers! Donny

Where was the McCready interview? I'm hopelessly behind in listening to these podcasts, unfortunately.

This podcast keeps getting better and better, and it was bloody awesome to start with.
I gave the podcast a listen yesterday and then did the same thing. It's amazing how after a year of listening to the Redux that I still react to moments in songs which are different than the original release (where you hear something clarified or brought up in the mix). It just goes to show how much of the original was imprinted in my memory.
About the interview...
It was just great, Donny. A real treat to listen to. I'm sure by this point in his life Krusen is well over people asking him questions about such a turbulent point in his life, but his willingness to go over it with you in such depth and detail was informative and telling about what kind of life he must lead now. It was very kind of him to open up with you and share some of those things.
***SPOILERS BELOW***
My favorite parts...
1. Where he revealed how much (volume wise) was recorded during the sessions for Ten, which has never seen the light of day. This really gives me hope that the band will be willing to put out a comprehensive blu-ray archive (or something similar) before too long. Not only for Ten, but all the way up until recent releases.
2. When he indicated that the album version of Alive is the demo version they recorded for the people at Epic, and that it wound up being the best take so they just used it.
3. Where he owned his past with alcoholism and was man enough to still discuss it with you, a complete stranger, on the public record. Amazing.
4. When you asked him about at 20th anniversary event. Nice try!
5. When he mentioned that he was playing drums for Hovercraft. I had no idea that had ever happened. Pretty damn cool. I wonder what the incarnation of the band was then, because I distinctly remember reading an interview with eV at some point where he (or the author) described Hovercraft's tour as them being in a van and driving around doing these small shows. The prospect of being stuck in a van with a former band member for days or weeks on end and observing each other must have been a strange experience (at least at first).
There were many other cool moments too. Those are the ones that stand out off the top of my head.
A really terrific job on this one. Especially considering how little there seems to be on the record from Krusen over the years. I think you've snagged a bit of journalistic history, sir! I'm looking forward to hearing a Part 2 in the future.
Excellent job! That was a cool interview!
