That's an awesome setlist again. MFC, Breath, Jeremy, Porch, RITFW... I think the festivals have been pretty decent actually, thought I'd just say that since loads of people have been grumbling recently. I'd love to have traded Holland v Uruguay on the tv for this show tonight! Two more chances for Freebird, keeping my toes and fingers crossed for D! :D

awesome as always, especially when they played breath and of course just breathe. but from my point of view, the crowd wasn't that good as at other shows ... what are your thoughts on that?

for me the highlight was during the ben harper & relentless 7 show: eddie was welcomed on stage and he and ben were doing the queen song under pressure, UNBELIEVABLE.

for real that was your highlight..wooow

i was not there so cant say any difference..spoke to dimi after the show he said it was crazy good..but hes only been to a few shows ;)
  • Compared to Arras, this was 200% better. Energy on stage, and the general feeling of the crowd put France to shame IMO!

Some photos. I didn't try to get close this time.

It may be just the language, but I've read the most beautiful reviews today, and none of them starting from Homer, for a change. Eddie made an impression with his Italian speech. And wine.
«Quando abbiamo iniziato, ormai vent’anni fa, un luogo come l’Italia per noi era la luna. Adesso abbiamo il nostro posto sulla luna. Grazie».
"When we started, now twenty years ago, a place like Italy for us was the moon. Now we have our place on the moon. Thank you."
    I didn't see it posted.

There I go again ...where words are inadequate...

There was a little weather deja-vu..but luckily it cleared up. I took advantage of the fact that people were put out of the closest section to the stage...when everybody was returning to the "fan pit" I sneaked in with a fake wristband made from a train ticket, bubble-gum and orange Post-it paper.
Given to Fly as an opener launched me into another state of being. I always get teary..this time it started with Just Breathe..but the real emotional outburst surprised me during State of Love and Trust. "Help me from myself" is where I was shouting my lungs out and then bursting into tears. And then again with Black. It's like a filter. Emotions pile up and get stuck inside, but then I go to a Pearl Jam concert and it's like a strong current through my pores. Or if you think of me as a tree...a little stuck and looking so calm and firm on the outside...but just a breeze and all the leaves are trembling. Or I don't know..it's really hard to describe it...maybe like ashes...that seem off but just a little push with a stick and it's all sparky again... I think I once wrote how Pearl Jam have a map to my soul and I really do feel like it, they know all the secret doors and corridors and own the keys..and it sometimes feels uncomfortable to open them up or be forced with some of the scars that are there...but in the end I feel much lighter. I often question why it only happens with them as I like many different bands and am passionate about music in general. I still don't have the answer, but maybe I don't want it.
Anyway, the setlist was great. I didn't expect it to be this good as it was a festival after all. I was particularly excited when I've heard Once, MFC, Red Mosquito (very appropriate for the venue) and Breath. Highlight for me (besides SOLAT) was Unthought Known (also got teary - why am I such a wreck, ah..).
It seemed to me that the band was really enjoying themselves, especially Stone and Eddie. Eddie spoke in Italian a few times - it was basic - so I understood it. I think this is just so heart warming. Would love to see him tackle Slovenian language one day- it's been 3670 days...come on boys, come back.

Also - thank you - to all of you who shared this little ride with me... (I also got to meet Rob from the Pearl Jam radio - it didn't ring a bell until 3/4 into the magnificent Italian dinner, hehe).

All in all it was...*takes a deep breath and slowly exhales*

Yes..I'm afraid you did. I was the one that apologized..my voice was really a mess and my throat was aching a bit. I had no idea that I've said that they have a map to my soul and I don't. I'm repeating myself..
Rob just put the microphone under my nose before I could gather up some proper thoughts...(or put them in proper sentences).

    Fuckin' Breath!
I screamed like a little girl for at least a minute when I realized what they're playing.
Oh, and in our section my friend and I were the only ones who actually sang the song...but then when I think, most songs weren't sang by people around us.
Still, I LOVED Breath. And then MFC and Present Tense.
Ed REALLY loves Italy. He was in such a great mood, so happy and saying thay're not going anywhere.
In the end, he said how they've had so many beautiful moments in italy and how much they love it.
He and Jeff thought Italy was like the Moon when they started the band 20 years ago.
And now they all have their place on the Moon so thank you all for that, Ed said.
It was quite emotional and so genuine :)

For a festival this was absolutely amazing, seriously gave Berlin a run for it's money

Present Tense was an absolute godsent for me, State of love and trust sent me to the moon with Eddie and Co and that was a freaking ridiculously insane blast of PORCH

Too bad I couldn't find dimitri but caught up on the plane today

    Bilbao should be another ripper
Man I'm getting sick of seeing Ben Harper :D

So glad to hear all the positive comments, I was afraid about coming here and get rain on my parade :)

I would like to thank the band from the bottom of my heart. I am sorry this may be long, but I want to say this... better loud than too late :)

I have a full life. A nice job, a great family... but there is something about attending one of your shows, guys, that just takes everything up 5,000 notches. As Ed sang, "when you sing, you help me through the pain." Not just that, but through the joy... through everything.

I went to this show solo. This was my second solo one, after London 07. I was really concerned about the heat, and about this being a festival, about where my hotel was, about how to get back there after the show... about so many things! But I kept reminding myself about London, and about that time in Verona 06, when I was so worried about the rain and then during the show thinking: "silly you... did you really expect the rain to make all of this any less fantastic?"

I have been spoiled over the years with many "rarities show" beginning with my first one in London, ON (Black Red and Yellow!), Hartford 08, Berlin 09. Venice was my only one this time around, so I didn't know what to expect. Well, it was a perfect, flawless show. The temperature was ideal, the crowd was passionate, but incredibly respectful (I agree that there may have been a little less singalong than, say, Milan 06, but everyone was jumping up and down and happy, and I was center as far back as the towers). And then they came on... Under Pressure was great, great, great. I agree that Ed looked like he was having a blast. I also thought that his voice was as good as I have ever experienced it. And the sound! Maybe it was the outside venue... but it was absolutely perfect. The other thing is that I really, really enjoyed watching the show on the big screens. Even though I was further from the stage than I have ever been, I had a great grasp of the happenings and the emotions.

I already felt like I could have gone home happy after "under pressure," but then the boys started the set with the two songs I never get tired of and see me jump up as high as I go: GTF and Corduroy. Sheer, sheer happiness. They actually played a handful of songs that are not my favorite (Fixer, WWS, DTE) and songs I have heard many many times (Elderly, Evenflow) and yet the energy was so good, the venue so beautiful, the sound so stellar, that I enjoyed really every minute of the show. Hard to pick a highlight... maybe UP and Breath, but of course also Unthought... interstellar, the first two songs... porch... red mosquito... black...ok... just difficult to pick a highlight :D

I shot videos of Black and Red Mosquito. I will post them later if there is interest.

Thank you Pearl Jam. With a handful other people... you make my life :)

Also, thanks to Jack Kerouac who entertained me during the train ride with tales of his crazy journeys, and to Jeffree who - even though he is about to become a daddy, will always be a child when it comes to Pearl Jam. Glad I could share this with you, even if just through email.

Hope this giddyness will last me through my next show, hopefully very soon :)
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

Also, Ben Harper wore a t-shirt that said "Io non me ne frego", which means "I do give a shit"

"I don't give a shit" was a fascist slogan in the 1920s. I thought that was pretty awesome of him.

Watching youtube... "he made it to Italia, had a smoke in the tree.."

    Can't. Stop. Smiling.

What an amazing day in Venice.
It was my show n. 20 and one of the best.
Great sound (better than the HRC for example), great performance and great setlist.
