Ottawa Bluesfest Meet-Up?

Hey all. I've seen a few posts lately from people heading to the Ottawa Bluesfest over the next 2 weeks and thought I'd ask if anyone wants to meet up at the festival. As the only one in my circle of student friends who can afford the full festival pass this year, I'll be going alone most nights and could use the company. I did the same thing last year and met tons of cool people, but I think it would be fun to meet up with some fellow Ten Club members, grab a drink and listen to some good music. Post here what nights you're going and we can all wear PJ shirts to find each other! :D

Day 4: John Butler, then heading down to the market for Wintersleep
    Day 5: Metric
    Day 6: RUSH
Day 7: City and Colour in the market
    Day 8: The Arcade Fire
    Day 9: Santana
Day 10: Dana Fuchs, Matt Good, then Derek Trucks or Crowded House
    Day 11: Stars
    Day 12: The Hold Steady

I'll be at most of the same shows with a few exceptions, so I'm sure we'll run into each other at some point. As of now, the only night I can't make it is the first, which doesn't particularly crush me as I don't care all that much for Dream Theater or Iron Maiden. Probably would have checked them out anyway but, alas, I have to work. As of now, I'll be there every other night, including City and Colour in the Market (which I'm super psyched for by the way!!) So far, I'm not as excited as last year (which was my first Bluesfest), but I think the lineup was more suited to my personal tastes last year.

Cool! I wasn't there last year (out of town) but had been the previous 3... The lineup is really solid...

PS, see Amos The Transparent if you haven't already... Unbelievably good band from Kanata.

They're the first local band I've seen that's not just good for a local band, but good for any band.

I did not... I took the night off, due to tiredness from the last 2 nights! Did I see you walking around with stickman T-shirt today?

Wasn't you then, this girl was in a stickman tshirt!

So far its been a solid fest, furthur was way better than expected.

Yeah, I quite enjoyed them. I'm quite pleased with the festival so far this year but it's turning out to be quite the marathon. I'm attempting to do 11 out of 13 nights (including Monday), plus I'm working on my feet all day long most days. AND I'm taking off for New York on a lovely 7am flight the Monday morning after Weezer. Needless to say, it's gonna be a long (but exciting) couple of weeks. :D

Yeah, I do 12 hr shifts monday/tuesday/wednesdays, so its going to be rough! Bluesfest IS a marathon, I'm skipping Monday just because I'm doing Rush and Arcade Fire, and don't think I could handle doing 3 shows on nights before I'm working...

So far I've seen someone wearing a Mookie Ten Club shirt coming home from Maiden...the guy was drunk with a bunch of friends and we were along a dark path so I didn't approach him...

Before Rush I saw someone wearing a solo Ed shirt, said hey, nice shirt and all I got was a blank stare as he walked away. Yep.
  • Hah, I was wearing an Ed solo shirt on the Sunday night, but I'm a girl and I was at the Hard Rock stage for The Swell Season for most of the Rush set. I saw a guy getting on a bus tonight wearing the green Canada T-shirt though! Anybody here?

Did you catch Dana Fuchs last night? Unfuckingbelieveable! Derek Trucks was also a virtuoso, the man is too good for his age.

  • Absolutely caught Dana Fuchs! I saw her in Across the Universe a few years ago and she really impressed me so I wasn't going to miss her. Lord, can she belt it out! I didn't stay for Derek Trucks though. I went over to see Matt Good and then stuck around for Crowded House.

I did!!! They put on a fucking FANTASTIC show. I was blown away. Although I've tried and failed to get into their music lately, I would go see them again in a heartbeat.

I was at the Lips as well. I saw them at Bonnaroo last month, and they pretty much played the same set in Ottawa minus Dark Side of the Moon. Fun show, but the sound wasn't up to par I don't think. You can't not have fun at a Lips show though.

    A board meetup finally happened.

The Whigs and The Hold Steady were absolutely incredible. Finishing off my festival with Amos The Transparent.

So my 12 day Rock and Roll vacation has come to an end. Man do I ever have the blues. I included the Quebec City Summer Festival along with the Ottawa Bluesfest. Here's how it went down.

July 7, Ottawa - Furthur (they were so tight!)

July 8, Quebec City - Bedouin Soundclash / John Butler Trio (Wow, first time seeing JBT. He was amazing.)

July 9, Quebec City - Ethiopiques / Iron Maiden (60,000 fans in the pouring rain on the Plains of Abraham.)

July 10, Ottawa - Roy Rogers / Metric / Flaming Lips (Roy Rogers, Wow! Flaming Lips even more Wow!)

July 11, Ottawa - Rush (Best Rush show I've ever seen)

July 12, Quebec City - RAM / Arcade Fire (what can I say? Amazing!)

July 13, Quebec City - Steve Winwood / Santana (Fantastic!)

July 14, Ottawa - Steve Winwood / Santana ( They actually changed up the setlists. Fantastic!)

July 15, Ottawa - Dana Fuchs / Matt Anderson / Derek Trucks ( great line up from start to finish)

July 16, Ottawa - Budos Band (First time seeing them. Loved it.)

July 17, Ottawa - The Whigs / The Hold Steady / The Musical Box (Firt time for all 3. They were all great)

July 18, Ottawa - Occidental Brothers / Jimmy Cliff / Weezer (Jimmy Cliff blew me away. Weezer did not.)

Can't Wait for next year. Oh yeah, I wore my Green Trojan Horse Canada '05 shirt twice.

Hey, saw the Green trojan shirt at the hold steady, musical box, and jimmy cliff shows. Loved Jimmy Cliff.

Wore the Green Trojan the night of The Hold Steady but not Jimmy Cliff night. What blew me away about Jimmy Cliff is that at 62 years old he still rocks out like he's in his twenties. I expected a more reserved and subdued performance.

oops, my bad. You were wearing a pj shirt at the Cliff show though right? Usually I say "nice shirt" or something to people wearing them, but In Ottawa it's usually met with blankness which is odd (the 3 people I said it to before at the fest and gave me stupid blank looks discouraged me altogether), in other cities it's like the beginning of long conversations. I also didn't want to give up my spot along the rail for the show. Jimmy is the man, he's in great shape and full of love. His voice was so impressive.

I'm a 19 year old dude at a lot of the concerts in Ottawa, and I'd love to shoot the shit!
