Its like i'm hearing it for the first time  Even though i've seen it a few times live now, its like it just made sense to me! :P Shit like this makes me sad i'm not a baller and can't come to every show but you know what... it makes the time i get to spend with this band that much more special and heart felt.. As well as seeing some of pearl jam's amazing fans.. i guess if i got to hang out with people with that good of vibes all day, my body would freak out reacting to the "norm" ones

Yes, I have found many of the songs on Backspacer as profound and powerful as anything I've ever heard. I think they are slow-burners which will make sense to a lot of different people at a lot of different times, for many years to come. (Kind of 'universals'). Unthought known brought me light, hope and understanding at one of my lowest ebbs last year - a bit like flame in the darkness.

So yes, thanks as well. Sometimes we just need something that can help us 'let go', or give us permission to let go, when we need it. I love how backspacer starts so turbo-charged, gets you fighting fit, and then takes you further down once you've got the charge.

Many PJ albums should be in the record store section marked 'Lifesavers' - Backspacer I would definitely add on in there!! :)

This is so true! :ugeek: :D

UK is my favourite song from Backspacer, it's epic - as in grand, sweeping, majestic and uplifting.

Totally agree, amazing song. I would say the same for Amongst The Waves too - I love that they are back to back on the record.

  • The first song that got me hooked and that I really liked (other than The Fixer single) on the new album. Especially the third verse. "Gems and rhinestones" actually really caught me.

Love the footage from Austin, that was a lot of fun, muddy, but a lot of fun.
  • I'm constantly re-discovering songs. Back when in high school (when I first started my PJ obsession) I didn't connect with No Code that much and I could take it or leave it. Now, about ten years since I first listened to it, I can't stop. There are so many songs that I connect with on a personal level and have special meaning to me. I think as our lives evolve, so do our connections with different PJ songs. Something that may have had no meaning to me ten years ago, I find very profound now, as I have grown and matured.

Unthought Known is one of my favorites on Backspacer, but I do have to say it has to be one of the few songs that I prefer the album version over the live version. I just don't think Boom's organs live do justice for Brendan O'Brien's piano on the album.

It's an amazing song regardless, and I am hoping it becomes their next single eventually.

at times in the song, Matt has some serious heavy Soundgarden type moments.

I love when something like that happens- you've heard a song about a million times, but in one particular listen, it just clicks!! I had that with UK too, but live. Hit me SO hard at MSG1- a truly beautiful moment!

on the recent bootlegs i kept forgetting how much i got from this song cos the start is kinda 'maudlin', but it builds up to such a crescendo that by the end it's completely exhilerating!

    i know, i'm wasted here aren't I? Shd be a roving correspondent 4 rolling stone!! :)
