I don't know if this comment belongs here or not but it's just an observation.

How cool is the dissimularity of these lists? Pretty much all the other decades have about 20 artists or bands that are clear cut winners for top of the decade. They show up on everyone's lists and we all know who they are.

but in the 00's and probably beyond the way we find music and how it's presented to us has changed to the point that there are outlets for everyone's personal tastes.

A lot of people talk about how 90's & 60's were the golden age of music. but the amount of artists was so spare and undiversified.

The 00's may not have had as many peaks in music as earlier decades but it was very solid across all genres and it sure didn't have as many valleys as the past.

Absolutely agree. I didn't post in the 90s thread cause after reading 8 replies or so I realized my whole list was there, I didn't even have to think about it. But the 00s had to deal with the music industry being flushed down the toilet by it's own hand, and I believe bands were forced to come up with more creative ways of putting their music out, selling, sharing, etc. Evidently that made an impact. Pop is the one genre still being massively promoted by what's left of the traditional industry, so I don't think we will ever witness a rock "super band" again. Sorry if I'm derailing the thread, it's just an interesting subject!

I wonder what people's list will look like 10 years from now? I kinda made my 90's list based on albums that I still listen to today, and it might have looked a lot different in 1999. Many albums didn't stand the test of time.

Anywho... here is my quickly thought of Top 10 for the 00's

    Current Top 10:
    Green Day- American Idiot
    Ryan Adams - Gold
Ryan Adams - Love is Hell (almost any Ryan Adams album could be on this list)
    Bruce Springsteen - The Rising
    Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam
    White Stripes - Icky Thump
    John Mayer - Continuum
Drive-By Truckers - The Dirty South
    Damien Rice - O
Johnny Cash - American IV: The Man Comes Around

    Honorable Mention:
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
Zac Brown Band - The Foundation
Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound
Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists - Shake the Sheets
    My whole life
    was like a picture
    of a sunny day
