Because I just saw this year's live from Texas and your voice was extremely out of shape.
Of course I don't expect from you to be always awesome but lately you're losin' it man..
I was so disappointed from what I saw, I felt quite embarrassed for the rest of the band who were rocking the place out. You don't want to walk the door that D. Abruz. once walked out from

Kindest regards

I hope he quits smoking too, but I think his voice sounds great. Maybe you heard an off night?
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

I think the OP was talking about the Austin City Limits show, recorded fall '09. I totally agree with him/her. "The End" was absolutely horrid vocal-wise, and should have been cut from the broadcast (since the band has final say of what does and doesn't air). Red Mosquito is not a hard song to sing, but it seems to have turned into that by the look on Ed's face. Smoking does not HELP the problem, only hurts it. We all wanna see this band go for a long, long time, not start playing everything 2 steps lower so Ed can not hit the notes.

id like him to try it but i mean its his life he can do what he wants. i agree its only detrimental but theres nothing we can do. im sure hes tried to stop. id think his voice would have a bit of wear and tear anyway from drinking, always touring, and aging.

somehow in shows i never notice anything negative about his voice though.

Ever thought he may have been under the weather? To say that about one show?? Hell I lost my voice for 3 weeks after KC. As far as The End, I think some people are missing the message in the song. This is an emotional song, pleading, heartfelt. Eddie would have been a great actor cause he portrays a song, feels what's going on and relays that with his voice. I love it! I love it all!
A man will and must do what is right for him in his life. If he feels smoking is right for him then that is what he will do. If he doesn't he will quit.

His voice sounds fine to me. Let the man do what he wants to do and don't be a nag.

I was under the impression that he had attempted - and failed - at quitting. Also, while I agree with the OP that Eddie should quit smoking in order to preserve his voice - or what's left of it - I urge him or her to try and find an audio clip of one of the later shows from this tour, which should show you that Eddie very well may have been 'off' at that performance, as I can tell you I saw the Buffalo show, and the two MSG shows, and found his voice to be HUGELY better than what the ACL performance suggested.

    Have to agree with Pandora.
    I've also said this before.
The End is obviously such an emotional song for him, and will no doubt test the vocal chords, if he wishes to convey the sentiment of the song.
Surely none of us wants pure digitally enhanced perfection all the time?
The rawness of the live renditions of this song are exactly that, raw, and pure emotion.
Quit smoking? It's personal choice. Should he stop drinking next?
  • He's now a singer. He was once a howler. Listen to the older stuff on PJ Radio. That isn't always singing. 2010 is almost always singing.

His voice is appropriately hollowed out by the smokes now. Many believe Bono started smoking for just that reason, since he didn't have a good voice to start. Ed will likely have a scare somewhere, hopefully it won't be debilitating.

It's not like we don't know how the smoking movie ends. We've seen this movie a million times before.
  • while i'm all for any person breaking the horrible habit of smoking tobacco, if there were any flaws in Ed's voice in the 3 shows I went to, they were minimal. (Columbus, Indy, Cleveland). Also, he was blowing his nose and coughing into a towel or shirt he had sidestage at at least two of those shows, so the "under the weather" theory could play a part. of course, it's a fact that smokers get more colds/upper respiratory infections than non-smokers, so there's another good reason to quit.

frankly, if our rock star's worst habit is smoking a cig or two, that's pretty good as rock stars go. Would you all prefer he take up a bad heroin or coke habit? that didn't do much for cobain or staley.
